That is my Dream washer!! I contacted the seller, and it is in working condition. My only dilemma is that I do not have a way to pick it up, so I am working on that ASAP!

Joel - Not that far away are you?

Definatley worth the trip - it will go fast. I would have went after it myself but have an older White-Westinghouse
FL that I'm getting soon as the weather breaks enough to
go and get it and the wife is not real pleased at the room being taken up by this hobby - LOL! Hope you get it!

I am about 2 hours from Roanoke...and I would make the trip in a heartbeat. But my only problem is how to transport it, since I cannot strap it to the roof of my Civic. ;) I hope to work something out quickly.

You hanging around the wrong kind at least, if not the wrong state. Most bears I know have a truck. And even the few non-bear friends I have drive trucks or SUVs.

My friends have SUV's, but I doubt that would be best to shove a used washer into.... I know some lesbians, too, trust me. Most of my friends do not drive huge cars, actually. My brother in law has a huge black van that I could use, but I am not sure it would make the trip. I call it the Meth van, and my sister calls it the Rape wagon, if that gives you any idea as to what it is like. :) Where there is a will, there is a way. I will rent a truck if needed.....

Well, one can only hope....

Honestly, yesterday was my birthday, and when I saw this I was so excited. Sort of a nice late birthday present to myself. I know how rare this washer is though, and it will not last long.....

Enterprise has trucks and full-size cargo vans. Keep the GE upright, do not lay it on its side.

Enjoy,

Well, of course, it's a GE. It could be worse; you could have a Norge.

That's sure not the run of the mill GE; I never knew anyone who had one - and I knew lots of people with GE washers. Remember seeing them in the stores, and in a few model homes at Homearama. Hope you can get it.
I agree with Appnut - I know lots of gay guys with trucks. My next vehicle may be an F-150.

While the washing functions of the "Dispensall" units were fine, the dispenser system left something to be desired. Also seem to recall hearing stories of persons taking the darn system out of the lid or some such to avoid the bother.

The main problem with the Dispensall system was the phosphate ban introduced for laundry detergents. The resulting mineral deposits not only clogged the filter pans, but sorta froze up the water directing components for the dispenser. It was not uncommon to lift the lid on a GE and find a lint and mineral formation at the Filter-Flo flume as well as elsewhere. GEs used a lot of water and people did not use enough of the powdered non-phosphate detergents to handle hard water well, especially since the detergents were not as well built to handle minerals anyway. We went into an economic crisis both times the oil crisis hit so people bought cheaper detergents and tried to get by with less. That was not good for many washers, the Dispensalls included

I thought it was kind of comical when I first saw it.

bajaespuma's profile picture
Didn't one of the "magical openings" of the dispensall lid just simply dump main wash detergent into the filter-pan? And didn't the one for the bleach funnel it into the customary hole in cabinet where it usually was?

I preferred their previous system with the timed solenoid controlled bleach and FS dispensers under the lid and the wonderful "Lost in Space" powdered detergent gizmo that sat on top of the filter pan.

I also loved and still covet that cool bleach pump door on the early sixties models that held a couple of quarts.

GE DISPENSALL WASHERS

We have a white one that actually works at our warehouse. Jason got all the mineral build up out of the flume assembly and I was impressed that it actually works. I have seen maybe 6 of these in my service carrier and never saw one where the dispenser system worked properly it wasn't GEs best effort but interesting history just the same.

Ken, Unfortunately that bleach storage system led to rusting of the cabinet.
