Hi, I have taken over my grandmother's Maytag A208S.I absolutely love this machine.I wash my white bath towels in it on the Hot setting. I use Tide, Fel's Naptha, bleach during the last 5 minuets and Downy for the softener. I use a small amount of diluted bluing in the rinse ( applied via the bleach dispenser). I have yet to meet a machine that has kept my towels whiter or fluffier.
I can remember my grandmother doing laundry with it when I was about three years old. Needless to say I am very fond of this machine.I never overload it. I scrub the lint filter on a weekly basis. What can I do to make sure this machine will be washing as long as I have it.I am 29, and plan on keeping it for as long as I possibly can. Where could I score a matching dryer for it? It had a matching dryer, but my late grandfather bought a new dryer on the advice of a repairman (wouldn't have happened had I been present LOL)
The machine washes beautifully. I have noticed a very small amount of grease ( less than the size of a BB) on the hub when I took the agitator off to clean it. Should I be concerned with that? Below is a picture of the hub . thanks, Derek

Derek - great looking Maytag! From what I see, you don't have anything to worry about. I'm glad to see that it was passed down from your grandmother to you, and you are taking very good care of it. You'll love it!

Matching dryers pop up on CL all the time. Keep an eye out and eventually you'll come across one.

Ben

I used to have that EXACT same washer! My aunt gave it to me when the water level switch went and it overflowed. I fixed it and used it for a few years until one of the tub support bolts rusted and fell out. Great washer! I miss it terribly!!! I loved that machine so much that it made an appearance in my high school senior pics and I even had the Maytag logo tattooed on my back! lol

Take good care of it!!!!

Beautiful machine. Ben is right. You'll find a companion dryer on CL eventually.

Judging by the minty console and cabinet, that machine has been extremely well loved and taken care of.

Keep an eye on craigslist for a DE/DG808 dryer.

If you're very anxious in getting a matching dryer, here's a nice almond one for sale
