Gansky had just posted a pic of his the other day. The control is fully functional. Why did it get hauled off? Well, after hooking it up and trying it out, I noticed that A) It was draining as it agitated and B) was VERY noisy! Took the pump down and found that the little black flapper door in the pump had broken loose, causing the pumping out, and had gotten caught in the impeller causing the noise. Changed it out and tried it out again...

So, as I said earlier, I ran it again after changing out the pump. Wow! I really loaded it down with towels, too. Strong agitation and a nice, quiet spin. Bearings are good and there's no tossing of crap under the cabinet. Winner!
Here's a little video. Sorry, I can't get it to embed so... Title is "Whirlpool Mark II Electronic Control Washer Agitate and Spin" CLICK HERE TO GO TO redcarpetdrew's LINK |

That is a gorgeous machine!! In some ways it's more attractive than the counterpart Kenmores.
The great thing about the later centerpost design (1978-1987), though I have cursed them for certain things, is that the bearings almost never go bad. Don't ya just love those white baskets? VERY COOL Andy! Gordon |

My parents had a Whirlpool washer with the same agitator. I would stuff that thing and it never slowed down. |

Since I'm 27 y/o...I'm still learning about these belt drive washers. On the washer basket where that "arm" comes over the wash basket and hovers over that plate, is that the balance switch? From what I see, its a magnet so once the magnetic field is broken, it triggers the off balance switch? Just curious, thanks...

That thing is gorgeous. And the pump is so fast, way faster than the earlier WP/KM one.
At first I thought you had Big Bling on your wrist, then I saw it was a beautiful watch. How funny. Another exciting volume in the "Redcarpetdrew Turnover Studies." I LOVED your movie. Thank you. What a gorgeous washing machine. (Switched from ailing Safari to Firefox and can get YouTube with no trouble. So grateful for what you did when I couldn't. You are a prince of a man.) |

What you're looking at is the snubber. It is spring loaded and it's job is to put downward stabilizing force on the entire mechanism. The work they do is amazing - for such a small device, they can really dampen the torque in these machines. The off-balance switch, which most if not all Whirlpools did not have (only many MOL and TOL Kenmores) is in the lower right hand quadrant of the rear cabinet. It is a relay with a trip lever that the machine's baseplate strikes if there is too much movement. Similar switches were used in some direct drive machines for a time, but not recently I don't believe. Gordon |

I may be imposing by answering a question to Andy, and if so, please forgive me. Belt-drive transmissions seldom truly 'knock' unless they are VERY worn, but they do, especially when healthy, make a good loud clunck when first engaging agitation. This is the spring loaded agitator gear engaging the agitator shaft. There is a 'gear fork' inside the transmission that raises and lowers the agitator gear into and out of "gear". As it wears it moves around a bit during operation and can create a rythmical tapping sound, especially when the transmission is not under heavy load. This is nothing to worry about. The snubber and snubber plate can also cause a knocking sound as the snubber plate can get loose in the plastic tub ring. This can be moderately annoying actually. But, I didn't notice a transmission noise when I saw Andy's video this morning. I can't play it at work, but will do so again when I get home. Interestingly, I was wonderig the same thing about Andy's detergent - they have incredible water pressure, but the water I'd bet is pretty hard. Gordon |

Was I ever surprised. I couldn't believe this was happening. It seemed like forever for Drew to get here. A belt drive WP or KM machine was on my want list. This machine is quiet and clean. I like the controls. After reading the instructions under the lid I find you can make up any cycle you would need. Today I had an early out from work. I went out to the garage and hooked up water to the machine and hung the drain out the back door. All I had in the dirty clothes was two pairs of jeans and a flannel vest. Darn!! I ran the regular cycle and all went without a hitch. Many thanks to Drew for handing this beautiful machine over to me. I will take great care of it. Dano pic of washer

This last pic is the machine spinning. Camera stopped action. It is a quiet spin. I like the swoosh swoosh from the pump after all of the water has drained out. Thanks again Andrew for thinking of me. PS JoEllen loves it too. She was out this morning checking it out again before work. Best to all. Dano Bendix 5

Awesome, as long as a member of the club got it that will actually appreciate it, that is fine with me :). I can't believe someone would get rid of such a nice machine when all it needed was a pump. |
