I just found this on msn.com

"When Josephine Cochran ordered her servants aside and began washing her own dishes, she had a revelation: washing dishes was true drudgery. This realization is what led Cochran to invent the first hand-turned dishwasher that used water pressure for cleaning. She succeeded in creating a working model, and patented it in 1886. The dishwasher eventually included a motor, and the larger model could clean 240 dishes in two minutes; as a result, it became popular with hotels and restaurants.

After Cochran's death in 1913, the company continued to manufacture dishwashers and, through several acquisitions, eventually came to be known under the KitchenAid brand. "

I believe that JCochran company either merged with or was bought by the Crescent Mfg. Co. Then Crescent actually manufactured parts for Hobart I think until around the late 50's. Crescent used to make the Speed Reducer for the famed "Hobart Crescent Dual Drive". This was the means of getting the rack on a Commercial Machine through the Multi Tank Wash System. IIRC this Speed Reducer was the model R-1

Sorry for the Vagueness, the CRS is getting worse.

Help stevet !!!
