Hi, new here, not a washing machine collector, but just don't like new when old will do.

I have a Hoover Cadet A1182 "Heavy Duty" top loading single tub washing machine. S/N 104627. Made in Japan for Hoover (Aust). From searching your forum, apparently a rebadged Sanyo pulsator / impeller, early 1980s.

First the easy question: does it have a lint filter? I feel a bit dim not being able to find it if it's there. Most washes, one or two items will finish covered in lint, as though they have acted as a filter themselves.

Second question: is it possible to obtain a new internal hose for this machine?

I need the rubber inlet merge hose which combines the hot & cold water & feeds through to the top of the drum. It is basically a "Y" shape, & a generic part may fit if the connection diameters are correct & the whole of it is flexible enough to bend & squash to shape.

Inlet ends external diameters 20mm in-situ, with 53mm between centres. Outlet end external measurements about 40mm x 17mm (fillet ended slot shape), offset to left (cold inlet side) when seen from rear of machine. It is very approximately 85mm long from inlets entry's to outlet end. See appalling quality camera phone photo attached.

The current part is split in several places & leaks on filling, about half a litre of water each wash. This never mattered before because the machine was in an outhouse & we're in northwest Victoria with a semi-arid climate, but it is now indoors & I have to stand by it with a mop attending to its incontinence, rather reducing the benefits of an automatic washing machine.

I have considered repair with self-bonding silicon rubber repair tape, but I'm not convinced there's room for enough wraps to be effective, & it's expensive & hard to find.

Many thanks for any suggestions on either of these questions!

We were given the machine after it had been in someone's shed for some time - it had been pulled out of a unit a while ago, probably because of the leak. The plug had been cut off, but nothing else needed fixing to get it working.

It washes well (we use it with cold water only), the lint issue aside, but is rougher than the average top loader in my experience. Many t-shirts are emerging with permanently stretched & deformed collars. The load off balance cut-out trips when spinning now & then, but no more so than to be expected, & always with good reason.

Here's an advert from The Age, Sept 8th, 1983 (zoom out to view). It's the machine at the front in the lower picture. (There's also a couple of much better photos on your forum):
