Robert and I went to visit Greg in Omaha this weekend...
Saturday night, the Easter Bunny came to visit. In addition to some delicious candy(*burp*) -- somehow an Avocado Maytag 806 set found its way into our Easter baskets!

As it was being lowered down the stairs, Robert mentioned that he heard laughing and snickering coming from the basement. I have no idea what on earth he meant...?

Here's the washer! (The dryer has some issues at the moment, and will be coming down at a later date)

Ta daaaa!

:-)

WTH??

Where did you hide the missing buttons? LOL! For a second there, I thought I consumed just a little too much Tanqueray.

I'm guessing this is a VERY early 806 given the 3 level water pressure switch and 3 button speed combo with a Permanent Press option. This early machine originally should have had the 2 piece baffled agitator. Probably got trashed during the removal process at one time.

Serial #, please.

A pic of my internally restored '75 Series 1 806 humming away as I type....

I was going to say... a 1970s machine, in avocado, in ROBERT's basement? What's this world coming to? But it's a beautiful machine!

And those PUREX 3-in-1's rule! Drop it in, start the machine. They work great in the Oasis (I know, that's a curse word in this forum). Also, the "sof'nah" comes out in the dryer, and it works best at medium heat.

Fred, the laughter could only be heard by Robert, since the rest of us know better :D

This is one of the nicest Maytag washers to have survived - the most quiet wash ever! Didn't Greg mention that the previous owner had said that it was rebuilt recently? Either way, it is a FAB machine!

IIRC the single piece Power fin was in place by August of 1967, in fact this may be one of the earliest Avocado machines as it replaced Turquoise earlier that summer.

1966 - 1969 Maytags = best washers ever.

Ben

Fred, that is a beautiful washer. I remember the set well when they were at Greg's. IMHO that was one of the most elegant sets Maytag ever made!!! So glad that it found its way to a loving home!!!! Quality at its best!!!!!

There was a time Dear Fred when I could boast that Robert had a collection of 40's and 50's machines and just a few miles away my collection featured 60's and 70's gems. I have noticed some overlapping in the last year as someone seems to have wondered off the farm into the neighbors yard. Hmmm,,,not happy with ones own crown? Trying to snatch mine? Well it will never happen! Too big of hair to get at it, and it is held down with super Aqua Net...the pink can.
Of course I am kidding friend, glad you finally got YOUR dream machine! Now Robert can finally have clean clothes!!!

WOW!! Very nice 806, Fred! Congratulations on your vintage center dial Maytag. You will have FUN with that one!

P.S.
If you guys run out of room over there, just remind Robert of my past offer to take that 56 Norge off his hands... <:

WOW Fred & Robert, did this beautiful 806 just get uncrated for the first time??? It is stunning, awesome, fantistic and just beautiful! YAY!

Bob commented it's a standard capacity 806. Umm, I thought ALL 806's were large capacity. The agitator looks like a large cap model to me.

I would be willing to take that EASY automatic off Robert's hands to make room for the matching dryer, so they can reside side by side. Really, I would, because isn't that what friends are for?

Beautiful, love that washer! I found that 806 set at an appliance store (Maytag dealer) in Council Bluffs, Iowa, right across the river. They were beautiful when I found them, only needing minor repairs. The washer had indeed been rebuilt, it was done thoroughly and correctly, one of the cleanest I'd ever seen. The dryer is DOA, it failed while living at a friend's house and having one H-O-H dryer is enough for my collection so it convalesced in the garage for the winter. I'm sure Robert will have it up and running in no time.
I had a twinge of regret as another Maytag turned the corner to leave last Sunday, but I can visit them.

Living in Maytag country can have it's boring appliance-times, but deep down, we love them all. (Right, Ben!?)

Oh Greg,

I know that is a picture of the much loved Maytag that you gave me in her new home down here in Florida!!! It will soon be three years that she has been living here. I use it at least once a week and it has never given even one little problem. It still runs as quiet and smooth as the day it left Newton!!! Just remember that you are always welcome to visit her any time you want.

Now you know we want to see more pictures of that beautiful new Speed Queen!!!
