Yesterday, I finally decided to clean out the dryer of my girlfriend's parents - since they are currently abroad. Boy, what a massive load of hair and gunk! The interior was full of it. All covered in grease (from being installed in a kitchen) and dog hair. And if you're wondering, just why the dryer is soo covered in hair: since this is a condenser dryer, it sucks in ambient air to cool the condenser. This air is then channeled through the entire interior of the machine. I think B/S/H design their dryers this way to take advantage of the warm air that exits the condenser to add some extra heat around the drum. Unfortunately, every bit of dirt, hair etc. is also sucked into the machine remains in there. Our Electrolux has a exhaust channel - the interior remains much cleaner that way.

This is the dryer, a Siemens Siwatherm 2100

Yes, it's amazing the amount of rubbish that collects in a drier.

Incidentally, my old Zanussi condenser machine also circulates the cool condensing air throughout the machine. Probably to cool all the components so they don't melt.

So you disassemble the drier to clean it? This makes me wonder what mine must look like. I would be afraid I would take it apart and couldn't get it back together again.

Well, this dryer becomes really hot inside. The condensed water is almost scalding hot once the cycle is over. However, the internals don't seem to suffer.

A black cocker spaniel that sheds like crazy.

Yes, and it was so easy. Just had to remove some screws and the sides could be lifted off.
