My wife and I have been vacationing in FL this week. In the condo is a stacked Maytag top load (standard cap)agitator washer with a electric dryer. The timer knobs for the washer and dryer are both on the right side of the control and are white, aqua and gray. The washer has the obital transmission and is a single speed washer. It refers to Inteliclean on the description.

We currently have a Whirlpool Duet HT Washer at home which I loved until now. We used the Maytag in the condo this week and was really shocked how much cleaner and brigther our clothes were. Mainly the whites! We used just regular liquid Tide with a warm wash and cold rinse. No additives were used either.

So now I thinking about selling the Duet HT and possibly investing in a top load Speed Queen. I have noticed that the Duet cannot get grease stains out of my Hanes colored pocket tee shirts either.

I welcome any opinions and advice on this.

Thanks,
David

Go for it!!!! I really dislike the Duet machines, my dad has the original Duet set and a close friend has the newest Duet set. Neither of them perform very well... I do like the dryer though.

Speed Queens RULE!!!!

Perforated wash arms

If whirlpool would do some homework, they may, once they swallow their pride and get off their high horse, realise they need to perforate the wash arms to sweep the water up and spray it on the clothes as they tumble. Why they have yet to do that is beyond me.No other tumblers have the solid wash arms. All of them are perforated, even the cheap Amanas.

Maytag

I love the Maytag top loaders. I had a 94 model dependable care washer and dryer and loved them. The dryer is still running, the washer was damanged in storage. I replaced it with a newer dependable care and the tubseal became a problem just as Whirlpool bought them. I replaced it with a Whirlpool top loader and have never been very happy with it.

The simplicity of the engineering on the Maytag is the beauty. I think the drain/spin at once is much better than a neutral drain. I think it helps the overall rinsing process. I think the drain/spin combined helps to spread the load vertically against he tub so water extracts better, and the spin-spray is more effective. The shape of the tub also has a lot to do with good agitation without undue wear and tear on the clothes. The Whirlpool might be a bit deeper, but I think that makes the clothes weigh down heavier against the vanes of the agitator. A lot of my towels are frayed at the edges! Anyway, none of this is has anything to do with the Duets....

I think it's great that you have a Maytag!

If you wash your towels in your new WP DU945, the edges won't fray. They fit better in the racks without the spray tower.

The Speed Queen is a really great machine. You can also haunt craigslist and easily find another orbital Maytag -- especially here in Georgia.

Model number of the Maytag

The model number of the unit in this condo is LSE7806ACE, serial #15940794UH.

What year was this fellow Maytag made in?

Thanks!
David

P.S. PeterH770-Isn't the WP DU945 a Whirlpool Dishwasher?

My Duet has holes in the fins. Its called the "water inject" system. I've watched it, and it does well. Although I feel it could use more holes.

I love my Duet, although I adjusted the water up somewhat so now it uses quite a bit of water but NOT up to the window. I too think the fins should be a little larger. Mine has NO holes in them whatsoever. Funny how you mentioned the grease stains on shirts because I noticed just the opposite with the Duet than the TL. I've never had a Maytag TL machine though :(

That is a joke between LLMaytag and myself...

From how you describe, it is probably one of the last that they made, maybe 5 years ago or slightly older. One of the Maytag gurus probably know for sure.

OR...even consider a GE Filter FLo...again off craigslist...one for $50.00 and the other for $15.00.....never paid attention to how well these machines washed and the rinse water is clear on the first rinse..I sure do now...not to mention the Mini-Basket option...with the Mini-Quick cycle(15 minutes)....I play with mine almost everyday....

Duet HT versus Speed Queen

I tried a different detergent in my Duet HT this afternoon. Normally I use Arm & Hammer HE or Fab ultra HE for my whites. I went back to using just regular Tide HE. My whites were really clean from the Duet.

As much as I would love to have a Speed Queen washer I just cannot afford to get another washer right now. As long as my clothes are bright and clean I'm happy.

Now if the Duet HT decides to tear up after three years of use and will cost $300.00+ to fix then I will buy my Speed Queen.

Thanks for everyone's advice and opinions!

Peace & blessings,
David

The KitchenAid washer really differs from its Kenmore -Whirlpool cousins, mostly that its agitator has wider fins and goes 120 SPM instead of 180(though the Whirlpool does step down to 120),and has a triple coat tub,an all copper wiring motor that runs cooler with bigger loads, spray rinsing in the 1st spin, not just the last, though Kenmore a little while ago started to do that for awhile, plus much longer warranties, and quieter also.

Trying to get soap and bleach in these tiny little boxes sometimes is not so easy. I get most of the bleach on the floor.

The dryer takes for ever! I set it to the dryest setting and the clothes are still damp when they cycle is completed. Seems like I'm always going to war with the lint filter always trying to get it back in,just right.

The dryer is much more efficent. The clothes are DRY when the cycle is completed. The lint filter is a breeze to remove and insert back in.

I have the Kenmore versions of the Duets, the HE4Ts. The only problem I have with the dispenser is adding the bleach as you mentioned so instead of pouring right out of the bottle, I just pour into a small measuring cup first - problem solved. The dryer works great. The clothes always dry quickly. For the most part I use the auto cycles and the clothes are dry in 30-40 min with a full load. As for the lint filter, I find it very easy to remove and replace.

Duet dispensers/Wash times

I don't have a problem with the dispensers either.

One of my top complaints with the duet is I absolutely cannot get a load of clothes done in under 50 minutes. It takes longer if you have a load of clothes that requires the machine to do a lot of re-balancing prior to spin. If it cannot get itself in balance prior to the last spin in about 15 minutes the machine shuts off. Then you have to re-distribute heavy wet clothes. Which usually means I have to take them out of the machine, untangle them, re-load then set the it to the spin/drain mode. That could take another 15~20 minutes to finish the load. GEEZ!

At least with a top load you just reach in redistribute, close the lid and away we go into spin mode. Elementary my dear Watson!

Maybe one day my new Speed Queen TL will come to my home.

Those are the same Duet's I have. The water level can be adjusted on those machines. My Duet uses about as much water as pictured in your Neptune. The clothes are dry in about 45 to 50 min's. Depending on how large the load is. The bleach thing is a pain if you don't use a measuring cup to pour. I have no problem at all with the lint screen.

I do like the way your Neptunes look, if ONLY it had a window :(

David---The detergent you use makes a big difference in cleaning. Both Fab and Arm & Hammer detergents are mediocre at best.

I tried liquid Gain with Bleach Alternative because I liked the scent. Unfortunately, there was a noticeable difference cleaning ability when compared to my usual detergent, Tide 2X With Color Clean Bleach Alternative. Gain didn't remove stains the way TIde does.

You'll be hard-pressed to find a detergent that cleans better than Tide 2X With Color Clean Bleach Alternative HE. Buy some and stick with it; your Duet will do a great job.

It's electric and it vents through the roof about 15 feet with one 45 degree turn. I'm sure it would dry more quickly if not for that but even with that, it's still very good I think. I have to use an electric leaf blower every few months to blow out the venting so it doesn't end up clogged up.

Oh Jim

I forgot to mention. I can't believe how pristine that dryer drum looks for that unit to be that old. Mine is stained faded blue in parts of the drum from jeans. Every dryer I have ever had has done that if it's white inside.
