After a rather frustrating series of mishaps, I figured working on the Canadian Westy Laundromat would be fun for a change...
While Hubby wasn't looking, I snuck this into the basement. Note the strategic position between the matching dryer and older 'cousin', L5!

Why the red silicone sealer at the water inlet? That was a cause of a persistent leak in the L5 (and why I wound up taking the counterweights off and re-installing them a total of three times...), so I figured this time around I would stop the problem before it started.

Re-mounting the tub is not particularly fun... I managed to drag Hubby inside to help and having done one before, this one was fixed up in about 20 minutes!

So, all I had to do now was test it... I hooked up the power cord, and pulled the timer dial out. And...
Nothing happened! Nada! Rien du tout! Boy, was I not happy...
I had made a point of testing just the motor prior to remounting and it worked fine...
I figure it has to be a bad connection somewhere or a bad supply cord.
Guess who's going to be playing with his voltmeter next weekend??

GRRRR!

I have to admit that I feel like I hit a brick wall here... As I suspected, the power cord may have been a problem and once replaced, I could hear the solenoids trip and click, but the motor still wouldn't run. I tested the motor directly and it ran. But when I hooked it up through the Westy wiring harness and timer it didn't. I kept repeating the chorus to 'The Rodeo Song' over and over and over... I poured through the service manual I have for an L8 Laundromat and I think the problem may be with the thermostat that is part of the timer assembly. So, I wonder if perhaps I could bypass it, but what consequences would that have?? Does anyone know exactly what the thermostat does?? My guess is something to do with motor protection and not wash water temperature. Could this part still be available somewhere?? I was hoping to get this machine at least functional before I start on the Inglis...
