What I Learned Today...

Today I learned how to replace the boot on a GE FF washer. I was getting my Hotpoints ready to sell since I have the Spotscrubber set now and I plugged the washer up in the front drive to make sure all was go. Well, all was definitely not go, all of the water that was going in was coming out the center of the bottom. OH NO! Turns out the lower band clamp let the lower egde of the transmission boot come loose. The rubber seems OK, a little stiff, but it is heavy rubber. I freed the encrusted band clamps and put them back on. Aside from the inner tub bolts being stubborn, it wasn't back. I didn't know how tight was too tight, but they weren't moving, I tightened until I met decent resistance. I don't know how this happened, but I TOTALLY understand how that suspension system works and it's wacky. I can see why these machine have a hard time on soft floors.

Are there any precautions on the boot or do they just work loose?

Checkrate/Likes What usually causes this is an very unbalanced spin like with one rug that tugs and tugs at the boot and can pull it loose, break the large worm gear band holding it or actually tear the boot. When this happens in the first spin, the machine advances into the rinse fill, which you have seen, just pours out onto the floor resulting in a good flood if not caught quickly.
