I pulled the tabs out of the top and it is still jammed tight, with the help of a rubber sledge hammer, i can shift the top around but I can't get it up! Please help!

Well, it lifts from the front and in theory is hinged in the back.

There are wiring harnesses and the hose for the water sensing switch between the two sections of the machine, so it won't can't come off completely!

I am lost, what tabs did you pull out of the top?

tabs

Sounds like you pulled the tabs out of the back of the top which act as a hinge. look for the unlock tabs under the front edge of the lid and push them in as best I can remember. It has been a long time though since I had to service my GE.
