Well we paid a visit to johns in order to complete repairs on Hotpoints first twinny the Supermatic 1400, its proving to be difficult just in accessing the parts to fix to micro switches that control spin motor / & brake etc....but nearly there...heres the two models with cabinets sprayed & new hoses just ready for their microswitches!!

Fannys Twintub....Hoovermatic, I get a call a few weeks ago from Neil, who was doing a midnight wash and the safety latch had busted on the twinny, so I told him how to release it to get the clothes out...these machines where the first Hoovers to have the mandatory interlock , brake stop and use a cable from the switch on the front to the workings underneath, very prone to breaking...
So Neil phoned 30mins later effing & blinding that, "he`d managed to open the spin lid, remove the clothes, and put them into a seperate Hotpoint Spinner...only to forget to pull the hose from the back and proceeded to flood the utility room & garage... "So thats it, I....`ve had enough, they can all go on ebay the effing lot!!! I`m getting an automatic!!!! Lol Heres Neils Hoovermatic on the right with the now fixed spin lid release... |

Neil went down to his local house clearence shop and asked..."Any Automatics" owner said two are coming in , come back later, dont know the condition, ones Hotpoint & ones Hoover....
Neil phones and asks can you fetch my twinny over for fixing and Oh by the way the fells is dropping off my new wesher!!! John phones me and says, what do you think about Neil getting an auto, I hope its a good one, meaning classic, or he will be so naffed off if it has long washtimes...I said you watch, i`ve got a feeling he`ll find a classic and not even know... So John pulls up at Neils to collect the twinny and as he is reversing into the drive nearly crashes the car as "Fannys New washer" has just been dropped off and is in the middle of the garage being watched by John through his reversing mirror...The air has been blue since..and John has been throwing money to try & get this machine...."Not A Chance" says Neil..."Am Avin It" We take Neils twinny back on Sunday to "See new Machine" we are not dissapointed,!!!! |

With smuggling so difficult these days, how will I ever get a boil-washing TT over here? Whenever I see that steam coming from a washer in the kitchen, I want to emigrate and become a Brit immediately.
The Creda lawn Sprinkler will be more fun than fireworks! What a smart, punky creation! Reply#21:"We Need Pastry....!!!And a Cuppa tea...and a lie down!!!" What a great shot, Michael, and the sunlit canopy ceiling over the burgundy chandelier, the make-me-drool food and the happy faces-- WOW !!! Reply#27 "Frazier" That is total washer porn and fetish ;-D Look at all the gadgetry on the tiny wringer washer all the hoses and cords--and I bet it heats too! Are you doing a suds-return from the frontloader into the Servis? What a fabulous pic. Neat the way that sucker wrings with the bottom roller in the tub and no need for a drainboard. Wondering which TT cleans better: the Hoover or the Hotpoint, not that it would be easy to tell with all that BOILING ;-> What a show, Mikey, what a grand show!!! Take a bow. |

Oh Mickey, you love these weshers!!! that 3kw heater has steam wafting everywhere, & John loves hot boil washes!!! Best TwinTub - no Contest, Servis Supertwins - (lights blue touchpaper!!!) but Hoovermatics for plenty of splashdrama!!
The Servis powerglide is a lovely little machine, a deviation from their large agi Servis machines designed to fill a gap for smaller kitchen machines ...BUT the wash action is like on steroids to watch!!! Heres The Best!!! |

Hi Greg, the orange Hoovermatic is the one similar to your yellow model, this one has the proverbial interlock, which is a bit of a pain for us collectors wanting to see the action!!!, me personally the controls are small & fiddly, not good for big hands!!! again, Hoover with their commercial colour Pallete had great variations & themes of colour!!! do you still have yours??

Hi Eddy, its a fab machine, and in great nic, this was Hoover`s first faster spinning machine, produced in 1978, although it was the one that did have bearing & spilt drum issues, from the 60`s through to 1978 they had always been up to 800rpm...now look, 1600 the norm!!! have you come across many of these in Canada??

Hey Mike,
Can't wait to see the Hotpoint Twinnies up and running..are they two supermatic's ?? or 1420 or Twin six...? Those darn micro switches are a nightmare, and so i am told were the main reason for soo many 1400's being chucked away. I had to replace mine not long after i first got it..I managed to pick up a decent box full of spares from a shop that was closing down in Southampton, and even some spare hoses..like the pump-to-tub, where it passes through the wash tub and connects to the filter clean nozzle. Hope the machines are all off to a safe new home or storage, Jack did mention that you were moving soon..good luck !! I am just waiting to hear back from a museum in West Sussex, where they maybe letting set up a kitchen display, featuring about vintage 10 washers. Can't wait to see the Burco 21 when you get it done..fab machines !! Cheers Keith |

Morning Keith
The two, (well three) machines are all 1400`s the first model, first one is Johns, that needed a respray and usual hoses replaced etc...then Neil re-sprayed it and after putting it all together we found the motor break windings where sticking, i.e. microswitches duff, so a simple £2 job from Maplins sorted it, BUT, its the accessibility of the mounting bracket stuck through the bottom side of the spin can, that was one thing they didnt think through for engineers out on the road... The second one was an ebay find in Telford and thats being done up for Neil etc...., again needs microswitches etc...my one is still awaiting a re-spray & hoses etc...so thats next... Hears a few pics, will do a renovation thread shortly!! |

Hey Mike,
They look great so far, and a nice niffty find on ebay !! I never did know what colour the metal was mean't to be sprayed on the spin lid surround, it looks like a dark blue. The 1400's were wonderful machines, i have the Twin Six, which is awaiting some attention but am on the hunt for a 1420 to complete the set, although i think this is going to be hardest to find, as the clutch on the spinner was a powder driven and were always busting, the hunt continues !! Keep up the good work, the machines certainly look fantastic !! Keith |

Those micro switches on the 1400's are a nightmare and heard that this was the main reason for laods of them being chucked away..I will have a look in some service manuals as i am not sure of the set-up, ie postioning of the micro switch that you are mentioning..all the Supermatic's i have had, have had the switch postioned under the spinner platform, not far from the pump, and it is bolt on, so no movement of the switch itself. The brake thingie could be a bit more difficult, apparently to remove the spin can, you need a special tool..I have never had to get to the motor, although saying that i did have a go when my spinner was just "humming" but i was later told that this was the relay that had gone. I have a friend who worked for Hotpoint for many years and he maybe able to shead some light on the spin problem. With reference to the English Electric Liberator's, these are quite funky, although i am more a single & twin tub guy..not into front loading washers at all..LOL. The set i have came from a Lady Dashwood in London, the tumble dryer is fine, but the washer needs some attention to the pump. I think it only spins at about 600rpm..? I will take some more pics when i get over to the other garage, they do look really good when they are in the stacking position, but they weigh a ton. Anyway, could waffle on for ages, hopefully get to meet you and the other Northern gang soon..will let you know on the 1400. Cheers Keith |

Mike i missed your last thread which was awesome !
But wow seems like you guys had the best time, wish i had more closer guys to hang out with and get some machines going and learning. The hoover 1100 basket the light blue tumblers are curved, so going in the right lifts clothes higher and going reverse left is a smoother or less of a higher drop ? Does the hoover stay's stationary and heat and does half turns until i reaches the selected temp and then goes into a higher rpm drum rotation to wash the load ? Can you here the coils as it heats.. ? One of the best sounds to here in a Euro washer i think. The Galaxy and spaceship pics are the best and thank you for the story and the beautiful machines. Hi Keith, any info you can shed on the Hotties will be appreciated, and the colour of the spin can cover lid is that dark bluey black gunmetal,
Robbie, am coming down to staffs soon so head over and we`ll get you over to Neils to see it!! Lee, we did miss you, we want your input into making a super duper computer screen FL!!you know the thing, 3,000rpm spin, multi power jet wash action..., medic rinse and a pressure blow dry power spin!!!will drop you the dates of next meets.. Matt...you have mail.... am coming up to P & G shortly, we should meet!! Simon, yes its a powerful impellar, but it seems to not tangle like the Hoover, the speed is slower, the vortex bigger and it sits in the bottom of an angled tub!! its those very thoughtful people at Servis, think of everything!!!...(Slaaap!!!then wakes up!!lol) |

Darren, you`d have a ball I`m sure with these machines, and yes you can hear the heating in action, although its better sounding on metal outer tub machines like the older models and the Asko set that you`ve got!!!, the later plastic drums tend to muffle it!! The Hoover does shorter turns when heating and then resumes a normal tumbling pattern to complete the timed wash!! heres a similar machine in action, the Hoover made Electra A3E12!!!

Hi Peter, yes, its great to have them working, and the key seems to be to use them regulary otherwise everything dries up or cracks apart!! AND its much better with a few of you as you all can learn together and many hands make light work!!
Hey Jon, any hols booked!!! The Own Brand Washing Powder Isle is needing a customer...!!! Erik, glad you enjoyed them, I love the fact we can get together and share, and with those boys from the middle earth you certainly need a thick skin with all the jokes, banter & fun!! The only trouble is when you have to move them!!!...Lol, they are all moving to a new home next month, oh why cant I collect thimbles!!! Storage central here we come!!! |

Is that the infamous dyson washing machine up front? Coolios. I always thought the colors were neat, but someone told me that these machines were prone to breaking.... ? |
