Here's your favorite SQ washer.

Brings back memories of conv 2005.

That 1954 Speed Queen set was my favourite Convention set! What a styling!!! I remember I was flabbergasted when I saw the first picture Greg posted of these machines.

Isn't the agitator aluminum, not steel?

Aluminum it is - this one is just polished up and pretty for the picture! I polished mine when I restored it, quite by accident really. I was trying to remove years of caked on soap scum around the top and underside of the agitator with Comet Bathroom cleaner and it made the aluminum very bright and clean, but sadly, without the pretty sparkle-stars like in the POD ad. The saddest part is, it doesn't last and detergents quickly dull the sparkle...

See, and I was always taught that chlorine bleach on aluminum darkens (oxidizes) it.

Therefore, I use bon-ami!

Not Comet cleanser in the can, Comet Bathroom Cleaner in a spray bottle - does not contain bleach, just mild acid.

SOS pads

I have found that SOS pads really put a shine on dull aluminum with minimum effort. I don't know if the effect is from the steel wool alone or is there something in the detergent that is inside them.
