this is the maytag 606 that i picked up in rochester new york this summer. it was on craigs list for free.

besides frigidaire it is my favorite vintage washer.

it is the first washer you see when you enter my house. 5 rollermatics and a 1-18 keep it company in my living room!

never seen one

rollermatic's profile picture
made like that before. looks very sturdy!

it has a inner tub

rollermatic's profile picture
that is yellow in color. i am told that this is hard water stains, that it should be white.

i like the yellow better as it matches the harvest gold almost perfectly!

removing the front panel

rollermatic's profile picture
the inside looks good. it cleaned up easily.

pump is great, no leaks, although i did have to replace the hoses.

this white pool hose i buy at lowes works great!

there is some rust on the one

rollermatic's profile picture
support leg from a leak around the bolt that holds this leg to the outer tub.

it stopp leaking after i used it a bit.

i am going to spray the legs with rustoleum rusty metal primer and paint them just to be safe.

hopefully the leak will stay stopped for awhile!

love the design of the

rollermatic's profile picture
spin "clutch" assembly which puts the motor on a sliding mount.

i thought the belt was loose at first till i checked it out.

i have a speed queen that uses a similiar type clutch for it's spin.

i always did like

i love this washer

rollermatic's profile picture
and am so glad i took the time to go and get it. the nite before i left for buffalo i checked craig's list and there it was!

i use it quite a bit actually! been using it "manually" up till now due to the inoperative timer motor.

thanks to qsd-dan i can now turn it on a leave it!

I included the other parts just in case something happens to act up in the future. It's always nice to have spare parts (especially when they're NLA) to narrow down and eliminate problems, if they happen to arise.

I'm ecstatic to see that the parts will be put to use.

BTW, this is a snapping timer which is a nice added touch of vintage drama. Here's a clip I took while bench testing it.

i love a loud clanking

rollermatic's profile picture
timer! my rollermatics have a great sounding timer too, as well as my kitchenaids. the louder the better!

i just finished figuring out the wiring for it. very simple. 6 wires to the motor, 3 to the solonoids, one to the lid switch and the nuetral! got em all organized in my head and on paper.

this will be a snap to put in.

I might be back to using my Maytag soon, if the Frigidaire keeps taking 15 minutes to go into the final spin!

Nice 606, love Harvest Gold!

why is your frigidaire

rollermatic's profile picture

I think he's referring to his modern front loading washer.

Modern front loading piece of S**t, LOL. Sometimes it goes into the final spin after a couple minutes of tumbling, and sometimes it take up to ten minutes just tumbling before it will finally spin. One of these days it's going to really tick me off and out it will go, and in will come the 806!

Rollermatic, I wish it was a 1-18, I just love watching the Thumper videos on YouTube.

i just finished putting

rollermatic's profile picture
my 1-18 back together this week. had to put in a new tub seal.

it would not come up to spin speed, that's why i asked, thought maybe you had the same problem. new clutch linings fixed it however.

it is a lot of fun to use, never had one before. gonna do a thread on it sometime here in the next few weeks.
