Hey everyone,

For those of you who speak to me regularly, you will know how much I have been after a dishwasher since I moved into my new place. FINALLY, 7 months down the line, I have one. It's an Electrolux BW450 slimline. Picked this up for 50 quid in a 2nd hand shop in town and I LOVE it!! :D So pleased with it. Thanks to Matt (hoover1100) for helping me get it in place, even if I did ignore your nagging about salt ;).

best wishes to everyone,
Chris

Lovely!!

My Granparents had a full size Electrolux dishwasher from around the same time. It was so quiet and well buit! I always thought the machine was ahead of its time!

If i'm on the checkouts in work i'll dissuade people from buying dishwasher salt since we don't have hard water! I used the all in one tabs that came with the machine and noticed no difference so at least I know i'm doing the right thing!

Congrats Chris on a lovely vintage dishwasher.

Never seen that version before.
Always loved the electrolux styling of this era, though the dark covers on their washing machine doors always irritated. Looked smart but proved a bit of a hindrance when trying to see what was going on.

Looks good next to the Miele too!

Paul

Hi David - Matt's been on at me for using all in one. He's banging on about using salt, powder and rinse aid but with the water we have here, it really isn't needed. Fairy powerbursts do just fine.

Hi Paul - many thanks indeed. Gotta say, I am LOVING not having "dish pan hands". I've never had the experience of those lux washers, but they look fantastic. If the dishwasher is anything to go by, performance will be excellent.

The only thing I have left to do with it, is sort the drain out. Currently, I have it draining in to the sink. My under-sink has those push-on drains for the washer (not sure what they're called) and I need to fit another one but not sure how - might ask my Dad about that. I saw some self cutting drain things in Focus but couldn't for the life of me figure out how in the heck it worked. Oh well, at least I no longer have to wash up :D

Congratulations on your new purchase! Here's to the end of dishwashing drudgery!

I'll admit, for a moment I thought you had switched to plastic dishes and were throwing them into the Miele, LOL.

Very nice and congratulations to the end of dishwashing drugery. Looks like the cutlery baket isn't in it's proper place though. About how old is this beauty? I really like the control panel.

Actually, the cutlery basket can be moved into 1 of 3 places to adjust to whatever else you are washing - clever :).

I THINK this was made somewhere between 1986 and 1990.

Looks to me like it was Zanussi manufacture, not that its any the worse for that, and I reckon the Electrolux would be rarer anyway. It looks great and I hope you get lots of service (no pun intended) from it.

Its sometimes possible to get a replacement "neck" for the sink trap with an addional point on it - I have fitted the self cutting type too, but you do need access to a fair amount of waste pipe to cut them into and room to turn the cutting mechanism - its an easy enough job, its just access that makes it fiddely
Al

Your probably right about the date, my Granparents bought their machine in 1988. They had the 1000rpm matching washing machine. Hated the smoked plastic but it sure did look handsome!

"sink trap with an additional point "

Yes, B&Q sell them.

But you might have to carefully take stock of the existing under-sink fitting; the new one might have the locking ring on the 'wrong' part. I seem to remember that this happened once to me.

Don't be ridiculous Matt, I'd never damage my Sebo ;)!

I will be using powder, salt and rinse aid once the Fairy powerbursts have run out, OK!?!?

Seriously loving this beaut!

I don't suppose anyone knows how to get the dial off on these? We had some trouble with it being out of line, but we've recently discovered that it is actually on upside down. I don't want to just yank at it incase I break it. Does anyone have any ideas?

In my hotpoint ultima fdd912g i put salt and rinse aid when the notification lights come on, however gran probably has never put salt in her hotpoint df31 which is probably 12 years old. We just use finsih all in 1 and it's fine.

take care
