This little glass vial is the detergent dispenser from my 1957 James dishwasher. It is very exciting to watch when operating as the machine fills through over filling and flushing vigorously this little glass vial. WHOOSH !

Very cool picture Bob, my James is missing its little glass dispenser and I always wondered what they looked like.

Normally I don't do this in the Imperial forum but I would like everyone to welcome the Bob back to aw.org. A few years ago Bob and I decided it was best that he take a break from aw.org as there was some major drama going on, but that's all over with now. Bob and I had some good correspondences recently and so much time has passed now. I think everyone deserves a second chance.

Welcome back Bob, your friendship and knowledge of appliances was certainly missed!!!

awesome

Thank you so much. I promise that if I can't say anything nice I won't say anything at all.

It looks like an upscale shot glass for those amazing things they concoct in the fast-lane clubs of the day, not that I go to any.

Welcome back, Bob.

Welcome back Bob!

Note the hole in the bottom of the "shot" glass. It's ideal for those seeking to cut their alcohol consumption.

Hi Bob,

I am new since you were here before. I too have a James Dishwasher (Model BDL UCM). Members here have told me that it was a pull out associated with a Universal range. The detergent cup is missing. And like Robert, I have wondered what the cup had looked like. Would it be possible to show us a photo of the detergent cup in place?

Thanks,

Mike

How cool - I would also like to see it in the machine. I didn't know there was such a thing!

James model 9900

First I would like to thank all you fellas for the welcome. Sweet. Here is another photo of the back side of the dispenser slipped onto my middle finger for size reference and showing the teaspoon measuring lines.

in the machine

Here it is in place inside the machine. Note the reflection in the mirror like stainless interior. There is 2 teaspoons of detergent in it. The water only flushes through in the main wash portion of the cycle. There is a diverter that slides open to let the water in which is activated by the same cam shaft which also controls the filling and draining function switches. I hope to provide a video of this coming soon.
