Greetings everyone:

Well, I am finally getting around to putting my '61 A700 back together, and have a strange problem. When I plug the machine in, the tub light stays on regardless of the position of the timer and knob. The lid switch on these does not seem to control the tub light at all; it just shuts off the machine by mechanically activating the off-balance lever. That lever just pushes the timer knob out to shut it off. Are these lights supposed to stay on whenever the machine is plugged in? The console back-light is controlled by a separate switch like an old desk lamp. The control dial light does not stay on when the machine is off either. When I first got it the bulb was bad so I do not know how it behaved then. I don't think anything I did when cleaning the machine up caused this either.

Thanks for any advice!

Andrew S.

The console switch for the backlight also controls the tub light on that one. I'd recheck your wiring. Hopefully it's not the switch as I've been on the prowl for one of those for my 641c forever...

Console light switch

Hi Andrew. The console light works perfectly (black and red buttons) but the tub light will not go off when the black button is pushed (but the fluorescent bulb goes out). I would think both would stay on if it were a bad switch - unless the switch has two separate sets of contacts, etc.

I'll have to examine the switch and wiring. I took the cover off of the console before just to have a look around and everything in there looked untouched from the factory based on the even coating of dust. The fluorescent tube looked original and had no black rings on the ends so I doubt that the original owner used it very much.

Thanks for the direction on this!

Andrew S.
