I don't remember this link being posted before. 1938 is the birth of the clothes dryer by Hamilton.

It sounds to me like the very first dryer was gas! It said they "also" made an electric model.

very cool article. Wouldn't it be fun to find a 1938 dryer!
Bendix brought out its very first automatic in 1937-8. Amazing how close they were in creation.

I have a folder for the Canton Clothes Dryer, says was patented July 1918, folder has testimonial letters dated 1921. This was a cabinet dryer that had rods inside to hang the clothes, came in gas & electric. I also have a folder for a GE cabinet style clothes dryer.
