I have an almond-colored stackable Maytag SE 1000 Washer/Dryer (electric dryer) purchased in approx. 1988 (?). I am planning to replace it with separate 24" units to fit under the counters. Some questions:

1) Does anyone know the capacity of the washer so that I can try to pick a comparable replacement? The owners manual says "Capacity: Standard 16 (13 Imp.) gal.; 60.6 lit" but new machines list capacity in terms of cubic feet. Will a front-loading 24" fit about the same amount? I'd look for one of the larger capacity-- which would mean about 2.5 cu. ft. or even a little less (recommendations welcome).

2) The stackable still runs fine--any suggestions as to what I should do with it? It won't fit in new space.
Many thanks for any assistance...

REPLACEMENT FOR MT SE IOOO

Any 24" FL washer will wash a larger load than the MT stack. The problem may be the dryer no 24" dryer is as large or as good as the current MT dryer. The best most durable 24" compact is the WP or KM with the lint filter in the back of the drum. The most practicable 24" FL washers are the WP wfc7500 made by WP in China, or the MT mah2400 made by Samsung in Korea. None of the matching dryers for any of the imported 24" washers are very good so its best to use the imported washer and the US dryer.
