Is the belt at the end of its adjustment range? Per observation, is it appreciably worn/cracked/fraying? Examine the pump. A pump gone to bad bearings is a common cause of belt-drive sluggishness. If the belt can't move but the motor is running, the motor pulley will wear it down, sometimes burn and break it. Don't tighten the belt excessively, that'll cause a strain on the various pulley bearings ... motor, pump, spin & tranny. It should deflect 1/2" in/out (1/4" each direction) with approx 6 lbs of force applied halfway between the motor and tranny pulleys. |

Dadoes The belt is not worn or cracked and does deflect about 1/4". So I guess the pump is going. How do I see f the pump is going bad? Or should I just try to find a replacement pump? Thanks for your help. David |

You can also try running a load and see if the pump or possibly the motor pulley is too hot to touch this would indicate a bad pump or in the case of a hot motor pully a slipping belt. Its really hard to diagnose a problem this way there are literately hundreds of different things that could be wrong to cause slow agitation.
