My parents have a GE Adora washer (I would type my opinion of this machine here but the language I would use isn't appropriate in polite conversation). My mother washed a small throw rug and things went bad. They think the rubber backing may have deteriorated in the wash and started to come off in chunks. I found an online pictorial on how to clean out the pump trap, which they did, but nothing has improved. From what they told me, the door will not unlock and it won't drain. Also, the control panel won't respond to anything. I asked them to unplug it and leave it for a few minutes before plugging it back in (after cleaning the pump trap) and it had no effect.

Is there a way to reboot the washer's computer so they can unlock the door and get the rug out of the drum? Could the pump be jammed?

I HATE that effing machine,
Dave

GE FL WASHER

Have they flushed all the rug backing out of the hoses and pump ? When the pump clean out was removed all the water should have flooded out of the machine if it didn't its really clogged up. Old foam backed rugs where there is any sign of deterioration of the backing should not be washed in any washer the machine did not cause this problem.

I am already taking combo52's advice i seldom wash rugs in my home machines. There is a recall on one the GE F/L machines, volvoguy you may want to check that out, if your parents are as dissatisfied as you are. alr2903

Solved!

You were right John,

They found significantly more crud clogging the pump. I've had rugs disintegrate in my Maytags before and they've never clogged the pump. The sink is another story...

Once the pump was sufficiently excavated, they restarted the machine and it's back to its normal self. My folks had some unpleasant things to say about the design of the washer and now understand the benefit of owner-accessible pump traps.

I guess something good did come of this after all,
dave

The Recall.

I already checked and the model number is one off from the ones covered by the recall.

They are now less pleased with the washer than they were before. Unfortunately, laundry isn't high on their priority list. They wash on the speedwash cycle, only in clod water, with Kirkland liquid detergent, and lots of Downey.

When I visit, I do my own wash,
Dave
