Is this a solid tub machine? The rear opening lid confuses me on this one.

I don't believe solid tub, if I am correct, solid tubs all had the side opening lid, I had probably the last solid tub with this style/buttons control panel and that was a 1974-77ish, I bought them used in 1980, after that they went with a perforated tub and the rear opening lid....

others may have more exact facts

still a nice set just the same, a little high price though

Solid Tubs

I thought solid tubs were made up until 78/79. I could be wrong.

I'm pretty sure solid tubs were made up through 1980.
I havent seen a solid tub for sale locally or even at the dump
for about 20yrs,so seem kinda rare these days...
The washer pictured somehow looks slightly older than the 1984
SQs i have,so might be 1981-82?

I would say it is a perforated tub. Probably one of the very first models. Very early 80s.

Have a good one,
James

Perf Tub

It's a perforated tub model. The giveaway is the ridge around the top. The solid tub models had a totally flat top, but when they switched to perf tubs, the top gained the ridge.

Its a perforated basket machine. The last of the solid tub machines are rare mid 1970s through about 1980, when they added the brake to them they had major problems with the drive line. The last of the ST machines also had a larger tub, I remember how disappointed many customers were with these washers when they had major breakdowns in the first 5 years we scraped many of them in less than 5 years.

I have a folder of very early SQ machines, lid hinges back & shows the solid tub. At that time, only the tol machines had the stainless tubs.
