Had to have it........couldn't live another day without it!

probably from the Sanyo lineup, but really similar to the bigger GE.....kinda a MINI-ME of larger machines...a lot of options for a little portable, several cycles, temperatures, and load sizes....hot and cold valves for permanent hookup

got it at a thrift store for $30.00....not too bad....think I'll put it in the camper, small enought to fit in the bathroom

model WWP1150VAJWH serial AG102009J

GE COMPACT 21" WASHER

These are fun little washers, the one you have would be made between 1975 and 1979 around 1980 they went to a plastic wash tub the first ones even had porcelain outer tub but I think yours is new enough to have the plastic outer tub. This machine is actually made by Hitachi in Japan, the only major weak area was stuff getting caught in the drain pump and jamming it. Overall it did a good job washing items that are small enough for it to turn over, the spin speed of over 900 RPMs was very good. however it does use a lot of water for the amount of clothes it handles.

How does it wash clothes with out an agitator in the middle? Does the tub turn back and forth during wash to get clothes to turn over?

They will wash anything you can throw at it...generally speaking.

The small impeller in the bottom spins quickly one way and then the other creating a whirlpool effect for agitation...

Just watch the timer....that is certainly one of the weak points at this age...

I love that they gave it a real GE console. This is a good reminder that impeller wash action wasn't invented five years ago. Have fun with it!

Congratulations on your new toy!

Unlike the newer impeller machines, these spun the impeller longer in each direction giving things plenty of time to wrap around each other. If you are going to use it for clothing and have sensitive skin, you will want to set it for another rinse cycle after it completes the final spin. This machine would be a good companion to a GE combo because it spins well.

BLUE IMPELLER!

macboy91si's profile picture
This is the later model of the little Hotpoint that I have. I've been looking for a blue impeller model since I was a kid and we had this and the matching dryer in Harvest Gold. The 4 spoke moves more water than the 5 spoke disc on the originals, I don;t know if that's from a different gearing or the shape of the disc. The newer ones as mentioned also have the real GE console and 2 water inlets and are more flexible. This machine does have the plastic outer tub. My 74 model Hotpoint has the porcelain inner and outer tub. I need more pics and videos of this machine! E-mail if you get a chance.

This looks like the little GE washer I gave to Kevin at his wash in. That one only spun in the final spin portion and did fill and drains for the wash into rinses. I think I have video of it on my YouTube channel.

I have one of those GE portables. Have a few things soaking in it since last night to finish later this morn. They're fun, sounds similar to a Unimatic ramping up in spin. Has a long drain period, seems so the load can drip-drain for a while in lieu of a post-wash spin ... or perhaps to compensate for a small drain hose to reduce sink splashing. Perm Press has a "cool down" shower rinse. There're five {very short) sprays during the final spin on all cycles. The motor shuts off a few seconds before end of the cycle, I assume so the spin can coast-down a little to reduce the impact of braking at Off.

I had that same model back in '96. please if you're a youtube member post a video of it in action. The lid switch is hidden I believe in the right hinge of the lid, so I've been told.

Yeah I remember the motor shuts off before the brake kicks in. mine was loud as heck during the spin cycle with severe vibration and sounded like a helicopter while ramping to speed. The sounds of the machine I love the most is the pump, the sound of it coasting down, and the motor during wash.

Thanks for the info guys.....I remember playing with one like Drew had years ago, and if I recall it had 2 rinses compared to the one this model has, a short spin after the wash would be nice, you guys are right, wash-drain-rinse-spin and thats it!...nice wind-up spin at high speed....I may have to tighten the belt, it's snug but still alot of play, not sure about that one...and the lid switch had to be by-passed, the tab on the lid is broken, so it wouldn't move the switch for the spin, no biggie, I would have done that anyway.....

I did a few loads, and really suprised how clean the clothes came out, and how dirty the water was, like DADoES, I think I will use it for soaking, or even quick loads here and there...

The reason they don't spin until the end is that they suds-lock horribly. I think this version is the one that alternates the fill valve with the pump in the initial stage of the spin to help rid the pump of foam so that it pumps instead of cavitates.

Yogi = awesome!

I've wanted one of these little guys forever - i love fully-featured portables. BrianL and I made a pilgrimage down south this Saturday to meet up with Yogi. Even though he couldn't get a machine for me, he was awesome enough to sell me this one! BrianL got a sweet Mobile Maid dishwasher as well.

Yogi is a super guy. He joined us to scout out some thrift stores, and even made us maps with directions for visiting some other stores in the area. We scouted out the spots he mentioned, but didn't find any more treasures, but then again, we already had some nice toys.

The little guy is home now, and i've done some cleaning and polishing and the machine looks great. Did a few loads already, and it does a pretty decent job, tho i could see how smaller items are more ideal for this kind of washer. I'm going to try and make a decent video soon. Already discovered a few quirks - the unique fill means this machine is going to make quite a bit of suds if you load detergent straight into the tub. Better to add it after the fill or before loading clothes. Also, the normal cycle does not spin before rinse - so there is no way to dispense softener. The Downy ball won't work, and there is no dispenser.

Posted a few pics of the machine at the link below. Will try and do a video soon.

I ran mine twice today.  Did a video of one full cycle (a BobLoad™), but haven't yet pulled it out of the camera.  There are 8 sprays in the final spin, not 5 as I said earlier.  Delicate cycle has a shorter/longer pulsation/pause pattern than Regular & Perm Press.  Perm Press & Delicate (unless I'm remembering wrong on Delicate) have sprays during the wash drain.

Thrift stores and flea markets are fun, but you never know if you will find anything or not....

but yes, new toys are always fun....

don't forget to check what bags you needed for your vacuum.....if they won't send them to you, send me an email, and I will pick them up and mail them to you

I know Brian is also smilling ear to ear with the dishwasher....lol

Next time I am comming up to visit you guys somehow.....even if we all met and hit a few flea markets.......

I'm also glad you guys made it home safe......looking forward to the videos...

Jon - I got lucky! When I got home I cleaned the little guy up. Yogi had been careful to keep it from getting banged up and I was able to get some minor scuffs off with some car polish, rubbing alcohol and goo-gone. The machine looks even better in real life! There is only one minor ding in the upper left corner of the machine - pretty minor. Everything else looks great!

Are there any pictures of the other machine? Yogi? Steve?

Was there ever a matching dryer for this machine?

this is the pic I had of the 2, yours is on the right......only difference is the one for Steve has instructions in the lid, and like I told you, I had to put a cap on the hot water valve because of the little drip during fill

still could not get over finding several at one place, a little odd

yes, I'm brain dead, maybe you wanted a pic of the instructions too?..............don't forget to secure that drain hose to the body of the machine, it easily slips off even if clamped, you don't need a flood, it could be cause of the hose is loose and old, maybe an automotive heater hose as a replacement will grip better, just a thought!

Martin , Eric, Brian seem's like you guy's had a great time together martin was very much excited that you guy's finally meet up.
He said there was not even enough time it went sooo fast,
that's how it was when Mike ( Dishwashercrazy ) was here it is never enough time when talking and sharing, comparing washer stories and getting to know each other better.
I hope to see you guy's in the future where so close.

I had a Sanyo that i got for fifty dollers as well lol
me and my mom leaved in a apartment and it fit in the little closet perfecly would do small Sanyo loads like ten, then take them downstairs to a GE gas dryer for 35 cents for a half hour
70 cents for and hour.
Unfortunetly i gave the washer two a friend in Collingswood NJ
which i regret i sure so many of us has done that.
Martin that nice BOL Whirlpool is making me excited lol.
Eric tell me how you like the washer please...
and what are you washing in it ? Thanks.

Cool! Thanks for the pictures. Wild that they are essentially the same machine. I can't imagine the circumstance that led to there being 3 in one spot like that. I wonder if they were all in an apartment building someplace.

I've found a piece of clear hose left over from my dishwasher project that fits on nice and snug to the drain outlet, so I am set on that. Its actually a little tough to get on and off and has been secure. Keeping an eye on it.

My plan for the machine was to slide it between the big 'tags in the laundry room. I do several colored loads a week, but usually only one white load, and the whites are mostly socks. The machine seems to be well suited to smaller loads of small items; thats where the most movement seems to be. It would be nice to do soaking in the machine, too. I was going to try to use it as a spinner too, to extract more water before the dryer. Unfortunately, I've only got an 17 inch space, and this guy is 20ish. I'm between a wall and a gas main, so I am out of luck. The machine is still small enough to roll to the laundry room door, and the hoses I have just reach to the second set of taps and drain I have set up.

Always a pleasure to meet new people from aw.org. I'm glad there are so many of us around here and that we're all getting to know each other!

What's not to love about a portable--among my favorites, too! Especially one that has EIGHT spray rinses. What a blast. The only other machine that I know of with 8 sprays is the Easy. Would be great one day to see the spray rinse cycle on this machine.

Eric, I use the same piece of plastic hose on the WP convertible. Is it clear, see-thru? If it's the same stuff on the rolls in Depot, etc, it won't budge, no clamp needed.

I have a question: Someone mentioned the need for low-sudsing soap because of the fill issues. Does this little beast shoot high-pressured water. All the more reason to love it. (I may have this mixed up with another thread.)

So nice and cool that Martin went out of his way like that. Uplifting.

Can't wait for Glenn's video.

Sorry for the delay on my video. I have to temporarily swap-out one of my daily-use computers for the one with working FireWire to pull it out of the camera, then edit it to fit the time constraints and get it up on YouTube. to get watts, I believe you are to multiply volts by amps

Its Too Big!

It appears the heavy texture of the pants slowed the turn over and action of the pulsator. Had the pants been truly dirty or soiled would they have come clean with the action we just watched? I'm slow to accept that turn over has nothing to do with cleaning given modern detergents but ranch living tells me otherwise.

The incredible spin speed makes you think you're seeing a different washer. The fill flume and the sprays are fabulous, if brief. Eight sprays times three seconds each equals 24 seconds of spraying, not too shabby.
