I became aware the old workhorse wash washing at completely random temps when preset to the correct setting. Checked 2 leads from front control pcb to thermistor which read about 100K Ohms, having measured this at room temp a few years ago I knew it was about 77K. Removed thermistor from its rubber grommet at rear of drum and measured again, it was 77K. Checked crimps ok. Stuck meter across thermistor and tapped it gently, resistance went into the megohms/open cct/100K. The stainless probe consisted of a glass bead thermistor bonded into black resin with spades stuck on top. Drilled out resin and old device and fitted new bead NTC thermistor with flying leads and backfilled with epoxy. We are rolling again for the princely sum of £0.60p HOORAY.

Good to here the Phillips is still running, and thanks for the tip, all for the eco friendly price of 60p as well, just goes to show with thought & determination what we can do to keep them washing!!!

Have you changed your sump hose at all, the push in one, tub to pump?? and if so what type did you use??

Philips Tub to pump

Hi there
No have not had to change any hoses on this machine, they are all in good nick. Fortunately I had a donor Philips that I stripped down for bits when my Mother moved house, but have not needed anything major just yet. I have a wanted ad in Freecycle and Preloved but no luck as yet, would like to keep it running for another twenty odd years if we can. Out of interest the thermistor must have been a fairly common prob with age on this machine, as my spare device that I kept from donor was also hit and miss, tiny amount of what is probably electrolytic corrosion on legs of device had seemingly eaten into the glass thermistor housing just below resin line.
