I got a free WP SHU5001 dishwasher, and that thing is powerful, have not heard water pressure that high in a DW in years, fun thing to have.

The timer works, motor turns the cams, but the selection knob is a puzzle to me. The machine has 3 basic cycles, labeled A, B,and C around the knob, and it's pull to start. But when I turn the knob there is none of the familiar "click, click clicking" of the cams turning. I pulled the timer out and took the side cover off and was able to rotate the cams to start the machine, runs fine. One interesting thing I notice is that there are stops on the timer to prevent the knob from turning around and around. With the knob in for cycle selection, it has a stop that appears to correspond with the "C" setting. With the knob Out for run, it corresponds with something else - not sure what. Is this a rapid advance timer?

This is an old machine, from '80, so the timer is NLA. Got a saved search on ebay, but I got to believe this can either be fixed, or there is a comparable timer out there, it's a pretty basic machine. Any ideas how to fix it?

I can tell you this about the timers since I grew up with Whirlpool dishwashers and had an early 80's model, it should click click as you rotate the timer from the A/B setting to the C setting and then stop. The A/B setting is usually the Heavy/Pots wash starting point with an additional W-R before the main wash setting I remember the first wash and last rinse on our machine was a heated delay if you picked the Super Scour cycle. You can not rotate the timer past the C setting until you pull the timer knob out, (built in stop in the timer)as that is the starting point for the C setting which was called "Short Wash" R-W-R-R-D.

Thanks, that helps. I do not get the clicking at any point. Found that I can only pull out the timer to start the machine at certain points, like A,B and C. so that make sense.

But got a weird issue now. The machine will go through the cycles and do what it should, I use the air dry setting. The timer cycles through the drying cycle, and then promptly fills with water! Then shuts off.

The cams appear to be a one piece tumbler, so I don't think anything slipped, but I do not get any clicking so I think something is stripped. Any tips on how to repair the timer? I really like the machine, it has one powerful wash. I know the timers are not available, and from what I've seen older timers are going for $80+, not what I want to spend on a free dishwasher.
