A friend called me over today to see why her 4 or 5 yr old noreg-tag won't agitate. Upon checking it out, it sounds like it's washing rocks! It will agitate, though not too smoothly, for a little bit, then comes to a grinding halt. The rock crushing sound seems to come from the transmission. Is there any remote chance this could be the plastic drive pulley or does it sound like a transmission issue? Washer spins like a top, pump is free and quiet. Any advice appreciated.

This washer may have a 10 year warranty on the transmission? if you want to fix it yourself otherwise the labor charges will kill you and its probably not worth fixing.

Thanks! I'll let Jen know about the warranty

Maytag Atlantis

I scrapped a nicer Maytag Atlantis for this very reason. Spin was not always guaranteed either. I assumed the transmission and kept the vitals from the machine, chucked the rest.
