Hi all

Just got my 'new' Hotpoint 1012 spin dryer into the house, so I thought I'd put up a few pics for you all to see. This spin-dryer is essentially the spin side of the early 70s Hotpoint Supermatic 1460 twin-tub - I saw one many years ago, and always wanted one - they weren't produced for very long, and don't seem to have been imported to Ireland (from whence I came), so I'm really happy to have got this one.

It's a bit of a dog to be honest - a bit rusty under the skirt, but it should be possible to deal with most of the issues -which are:
Belts
Possibly the clutch (unlike the Ooooovaaah's, Hotpoints had a clutch to minimise strain on the motor)
Drain hose (rotten modern thing on it), and the plastic bush for the cabinet where the pipe emerges (does anyone know parts numbers?)
Mains lead (which has a lethal sticky-tape repair job!)
Possibly the spin-can mounts (its a little off-centre)
All the above should be easy - the parts are the same as every other Hotpoint supermatic, so ebay here we go - would be helpful if anyone could share a parts number listing for the twintubs

More difficult:
Console - as you can see, all the decals have be scrubbed away - it should have timer markings and the marque name. Has anyone any suggestions? Any chance at all that anyone has a decent condition spare out there?
Timer - knackered - it doesn't register at all, so one has to hold it against its spring to get power on the motor. Has anyone every repaired one of these?
Cabinet - tatty, with evidence of a bad respray, so this will need to be done!

Nonetheless, most pleased with this one, which will replace the Hoover spinarinse (a pressie for the wonderful Mathew who has helped me stash the odd top-loader here and there!).

David (big beaming smiles)

Nice little machine, I had a similar one in the 1990s - seem to remember the dial markings were 'short spin', 'rinse', 'rinse and spin' and 'spin'. Hopefully someone has a spare console, or at least and illustration of one.

I guess this model was dropped when the wringer machines went out of production. I noticed in the c1970 catalogue that Keith Keymatic posted that the Hotpoint Countess was by then available without the wringer, which with the 1012 would presumably make some sort of 'Hotpoint Twosome'!

Hi david.

Congrats on the new purchase.

You mention the spinners facia - it isnt actually missing that much and some simple transfers or stencilling (he says as if it really will be 'simple' - lol) could sort that facia out.

Depending on whether its a 1012/01, which should look like this...

or a 1012/03, as shown below, an improvement could be made.

A temporary fix could be printing the right words in the right places on a strip of transparent acetate. Would be temporary though...

'If you already have a spindryer....'

Hi Simon.

Wringerless Countess - see paragraph on the brochure picture from Mikes collection.

The brochure was circa 1967-1969, as it contained the Hotpoint 1502 toploader, which was replaced by the 1504 toploader in September 1969.

Hi David.

What is the date code of your spinner, so we can find out when it was made.

I have a small piccy of the spinner pages from the GEC 1972 brochure (I cant remember who sent it me, many moons ago, but thankyou whoever it was). It appears that we have moved to the 1012/03 model, with the chrome dial cap...

and here is the 1974/75 Liberator brochure, taken from the ebay advert for it (did anyone here buy it?).

I had this very brochure when I was a kid, courtesy of my grandma who bought a Liberator dryer.

It appears that the seperate spinners might have been discontinued by this time, as they appear absent from the front cover which appears to show everything else on offer.

Strange to think really that Hotpoint stopped making them so early on, when Hoover kept theirs in production for around another 20 years.
