They are good dryers. I suspect they are "always on craigslist for cheap" is because the washer bit the dust and they wanna get a new matched set but have to ditch the dryer first. I believe these were the last of the true Maytag dryers.

They are o.k. I liked the previous era of their line better (Norge) because they dried faster than any other line available. I remember when I was still in High school, I went and got a nice house in Fells Point (Southeast Baltimore City) and it had a Montgomery Ward Signature made by Norge that had a huge drum and was left by the previous home owner. I had to replace its belt but, once that was done and I put the first load in after washing them in a Jet Action 1-18,the load was completely dry in less than 25 minutes!! The dryer was already 10 years old but lasted another 10 years while I lived there. It had a hamper door and an armature just above the opening you could pull down too keep the drum idle so you could use it to dry shoes, sweaters or anything else you didn't want to tumble. That house also had a 1955 Tappan Deluxe 36" gas range,a 1959 bottom freezer Amana refrigerator, and a 1955 Kiitchenaid Superba built in dishwasher.

The dryers are indeed the last of the Newton built dryers. Big capacity, reversable door swing, easy to service and also have the higher cfm blower. Good dryers!

Great Dryers

Yes great dryers and parts have been the same for many years meaning many replacement parts out there for years to come.
When I purchased my first Neptune set it was the old push button rear panel 4000 series. 5 years later I purchased a clearanced new in box Neptune Mah7500AWW washer with the touchscreen display for about half price from sears. About a year later I wanted a matching MDG7500AWW dryer but could not find one anywhere. Well I did my research and found that I just needed to replace one sensor, wiring harness and control panel with control board and I could make my 4000 a 7500. And this I did and its been great!

Then this year on the 10th anniversary of the dryer I decided I wanted to make it last another 15 years... LOL So I found an Amana NDG6800AWW left over brand new in box in Tulsa. It was built a couple years ago and it had the exact same components inside as the old Neptune!

So I purchased the NOS Amana for 399.00 and swapped ALL the internal components to make the Neptune like new again! LOL
And I still end up with an Amana in great working condition I can save for spare, donate to a needy person or sell for a cheap price.

I love the old Maytag corporate family. Great products with many great parts still in the chain and you can pickup almost anything for it cheap on Ebay on any given day.

Neptune Dryer

Hi All:
I purchased a Maytag Neptune Washer and Dryer in May 1999 (the second model Neptune that Maytag came out with.) Both the washer and dryer have performed flawlessly. I am very satisfied with the service of these two machines.
