The owner of this machine ran across my washer videos on You Tube and contacted me there. He said this machine is in very good original working condition. It is not beat up, or rusted. It is the Harvest Gold colour, so I would date the machine to be from the 1970's. It does have the stainless steel solid tub and the overflow wash/rinse. The guys name is Tim, and seems like a nice dude. He does not want anything for the machine. He just thought it was too cool to throw away. At any rate, the machine is in Indianapolis, on the West Side. So if anyone wants this machine for free, please email Tim, at rorymont@yahoo.com

if that was in my area,i'd grab it in a second!-i haven't seen
one in person in about 20yrs,actually the last time i saw any
was several old'60s turquoise ones in a laundromat in 1989!
-they must have got plenty of TLC from a loving owner to
remain in laundromat service for some 25yrs or so-was a real
treat to see/hear those still running!
About the 4th washer i took apart(back around 1980)was a 1966
coin-op speed queen in turquoise(the spin solenoid was burnt
out)the two unique large bushing toggle switches survive to
this day..

About that laundromat...

...with the turquoise SQs, were the dryers the large Huebsch ones with the little round windows? Usually where you find Speed Queen washers, they're partnered with Huebsch dryers.

And that 70s SQ must've had a white agitator, that's one of the main points of that time. And they had a unique sounding pump that sounded like it was calling my name when starved for water (Gary-Gary-Gary-Gary).

old,old wascomats there

don't remember what the dryers were, but the laudromat with the
speed queens also had a couple 1950s looking wascomat front
loads-got a peek behind one and noticed the big black cast iron
"elmo"motor-also the wiring in the machine was cloth insulated
so these wascomats were plenty old..

saw this post day before thanksgiving, called the gentleman
and told him i would buy it from him. didn't feel right taking it for free, not a solid tub!

picked it up today and boy is it a beauty, at least to me!
won't have it in the house till tomorrow, it's shrink wrapped
in the back of my jeep for now, gonna put it in carport for the nite.

never thought i'd have a solid tub speed queen! it was only 2 hours away so i went for it!

from the 70's, harvest gold, stainless steel solid tub, white agitator. and a great looking control panel. and the gentleman told me it worked fine last time he used it!

hope to have it inside and cleaned up this weekend and will do a thread on it when i do!
thanks again!

oh rollermatic, no intention to hassle you for pics, but a solid tub SQ is a real washer "fix"... When you get to it please. I would be very grateful. arthur

Pete, I'm with Art. Can't wait, and Art what a fix it will be. Your know we're gonna get a ton of pix when Pete gets that camera rollin'. Our patience will pay off in Pete's next Mother Lode of photos.

had it inside for about a week now, picked it up on black friday. worked in appliances that day at home depot to help out even though i am not a sales associate and had never worked in appliances before. that was an eye opener!

left work early at noon, drove to indy and was back in my driveway by 7p.m. and that includes a stop at krogers!

will post the pics this weekend even though i am not ready to run it yet. have to order a new pump gasket which i found on partselect.com

did some rust proofing of top of outer tub and cleaned it up. hopefully will have it running by next weekend, then another batch of pics!

thanks for the enthusiasm!
