I was on craigslist a few days ago a found for $65 total a nice 70's vintage Kenmore 800 gas dryer and a nice 90's whirlpool washer so I could finally do laundry in my laundry room and also so I wasn't relying on the poor lady k.

as for the progress on the lady k. I bought the whirlpool from an appliance repair man and spent some time talking to him about my problem. he offered to fix it seeing as he gets belt drive whirlpools all the time with good trans he just ends up having to scrap. so hopefully the Kenmore will be fixed sooner than expected. also i got the agitator off which will probably make it easier on both of us.

SCRAPING VINTAGE WASHERS

combo52's profile picture
Unfortunately Bob we scrap many BD WPs, KMs, MTs and GE FFs from the 1970s - the 1980s every month and I see many many more if I go by any of the local appliance shops. I do try to grab good parts when I have the time and space but everyone has seen pictures of the warehouse as its pretty full. When Ted and I have gone out appliance gathering we have often had to let 20 or 30 washers& dryers go to the crusher as we can't save them all this is one part of this hobby that I hate. I have three mid 60s to late 60s WP 29" washers in my warehouse that are going to be scraped as soon as I get the chance these are all in very good overall condition one is a shaded blue WP washer as I now have two of these. So speak up if any one is interested post , Email or call me.

i fell the same way you do but he tries to save them aswell the ones he scraps usually have some other part or cost prohibitive problem (usually failed pump. but as combo said cant save them all. wish i could save one of those kenmores but it would be may before id even have a chance to get up there. i know some one who would kill for a blue washer though i might just have to make some calls to my friends up there.

figured i owed you some pics of the new set up know the whirlpools a little new to be of great interest but dryer sure is old enough to garner a little attention. when i got it it was mostly covered in pink paint. the only thing not painted was the inside, the control panel, and some of the body. woman said her kids had done it as a mothers day present sometime in the early to mid 70's. so after a lot of mr clean sponges and windex i got a pretty nice looking dryer. wish i had a before picture, but remembered to take pics and video after i had got the control panel and most of the body done. btw please ignore the mess its been a hectic month to say the least lol.

Duke:
So you got Whirlpool Clean Touch DD. I've had just about all versions of the clean touch series at some point in time, except '94 -'96 versions and the '99 version with the 3 speed motor, and that temp sensor->nice machines.

John(combo52):
I sent you a email about that second blue machine->looks like I'm planning a trip to come see you in the summer.

yep we like it and for $50 how could you go wrong. sure washes alot of clothes at once aswell. only complaint i have with it is warm setting just seems to put out just colder than room temp water doesn't seem to be affecting the cleaning ability though everything has come out great.
