Hi guys,

I was cleaning my Granddad's house the other day, came accross an old photo which caught my interest.

The woman in the photo is my grandma, I'd assume it was taken early to mid 1960s.

It isn't the clearest of pictures, but I couldn't help but notice that behind her, to the left of the picture appears to be a washing machine. As far as I can tell, this is a Philips twin tub is it not?

It took me by surprise because I had always been told they didn't get a machine until my Mum was born, but this is a few years before she was around. I checked with my Granddad and it was definately their kitchen in a rented house. Perhaps the machine came with the property and they didn't "buy" a machine until my Mum was born. I don't know.

Anyway, just thought I'd share it with you.

Matt

Your grandma is quite the looker. She has the look of a 1960's French new wave film star.

Hi Matt

What a beautiful picture, full of atmosphere ;-) a time when young girls would aspire to having film star hair do's and make up.........she looks beautiful

My mum was of that generation (I am 50) and i remember the smell of hair lacquer on her when she came back from the hair dressers, she also had a plastic squeeze bottle full of the stuff and the top of it was caked with dried lacquer, she would put a net over her hair and spray this lacquer all over it what a pong! :-)

Argh well great photo to bring to the group thanks

Gary

oh yeah and the washer is brilliant too ;-)

gorgeous gram!

Isn't amazing to see pics of your family in their youth? My own Grandma was born in 1889, and I've always thought her a most beautiful woman.

Thanks for sharing, I love the picture and the nostalgia. Those faucets! Yum.

Thanks!

She was a very beautiful woman, she did do a bit of modelling infact! Now you see where I get my good looks from! LOL!!!

Thatks for comfirming it as a Philips Keith, fabulous advert! I wish I could have had the chance to talk to her about the machine personally, sadly she passed away 3 years ago this January, she was only 66 too :-(.

Yeah that decor is pretty cool, and the taps! Love the rubber end fitted to rinse the sink round with!

I bet that hair took ages to style! Probably created a sizable chunk of the hole in the Ozone later too!

Cheers, glad you all liked the pic!

Matt

Lovely photo of your grandmother.

Was this the first time you have ever seen this photo?
