I nearly fainted when I saw this... Needless to say, I have already contacted the seller about the possibility of selling just the dishwasher. It may just have that unusual James-style roller-impeller. We shall see!!

roto204's profile picture
Paul, OMG, is that the infamous Tappan tires-on-a-wet-freeway model?

*swoons*

That's so fantastic!!

WOW! Can you imagine what a safety hazard that huge side swing oven door is? (The hinges for a side swing door are cheaper than the hinges and springs for a regular downward opening oven door.) It should come with elbow length oven gloves. I wonder how far you have to open it for broiling. At least if it heats it performs its function better than the dishwasher. Best of luck in acquiring your dream machine.

And did you notice they are "bearly" used? snicker snicker - these people must know their audience.

Brief update

turquoisedude's profile picture
Spoke to the person who posted the ad - he is selling the appliances for an old couple. He does not foresee a problem with selling just the dishwasher, but he says he will have to check with the owners first. Hell, if push comes to shove, I will buy the bunch - that Foodarama would make an excellent 2nd fridge in Ogden and my friend Julie (pinkgurl here on AWO) would likely find herself with a vintage pink drop-in range...
Stay tuned!!

They are beautiful - good luck on getting the dishwasher. It will be fun to see those pictures.

Tom, you're right about the range door. Hot-whacked buns every night for dinner!

Does anyone remember!!

The 60s Westinghouse wall oven with the swinging black glass door! My cousin had one and I actually liked it, it wasnt nearly as awkward as you might think.

Foodarama!

That's a 59-60 era 'Trimwall' Foodarama. Kelvinator finally jumped on the Sheer Look trend that Frigidaire introduced two years prior. The 55 to 58 Foodaramas are the old-style round body fridges. The 58 makes a vain attempt to look Sheer Look by the addition of slim vertical handles.

I have to say this Foodarama is super nice and I'd kill to have it!

Norgeway, yes I remember the westinghouse oven with the side hinged door. The home ec department had one in high school, its matched cooktop was in the island with a mirror over it for cooking demonstrations. I am glad someone else remembers them. alr2903

Hi Paul, I can't find the line, and I don't care.

mickeyd's profile picture
You said somewhere that you wanted another washer for Christmas, of course--who wouldn't !?--but your Hubby was going to buy you a CRUSHER instead.

I thought that was hilarious. Thanks.

Oh, yes - his twisted fantasies about crushing my collection should anything bad ever happen! That was in the thread about Appliance Wills in ATTT, I think...
Anyway, here's the latest on the pink Tappan diswhasher:
The person selling the appliances is a contractor and as far as he is concerned they are worth squat. The old couple who owned them are not willing to split the set up at the moment, but the contractor said 'Give me a week, I will convince them'. So I am going to gamble that in the next week there will be no takers for all three appliances. Given the time of year, I would expect luck will be on my side. Once the snow starts falling in Montreal, you don't want to be schlepping real vintage (and really heavy) appliances around if you can avoid it... Stay tuned...

Good luck Paul! If you have space, I think you should get all 3! The Tappan range and the Foodarama look really nice too!

Wonderful

mickeyd's profile picture
It sounds like you'll get all three. Is there any way to hide the two, out of Hubbby's reach, and slowy condition him over the Spring.

Talk about an Apppliance Christmas Card line:

"The contractor thinks the gems are worth squat.
Money for him, I really think not."

Ho Ho Ho ;+D

Hans, a friend's family had the double WH wall ovens with the side swing black glass doors. This was 1970 and compared to a GE or Frigidaire, the whole appearance seemed cheap and the doors a little flimsy because they did not have to have a frame that would support the heavy hinge and strong springs of usual downward opening oven doors. I don't think wall oven doors swinging to the side would be quite as much of a safety hazard as the door on this stove because the stove is 30" wide while the wall oven doors were 24 or 27. It seems that if you had the upper oven door open on the wall oven you would not be as vulnerable as if you were stooping or half-squatting to reach into the oven of the stove and less vulnerable to a child or dog walking by and bumping it against your body.

Paul, the Tappan DW did not have the James' impeller within a tube wash system. Wait until you see what Tappan thought would wash dishes! Veys mir.

Tappan Dishwasher!

peteski50's profile picture
The Tappan DW that family friends had looked like the picture of the day. I remember it had a cycle selector with following:
rinse & hold, china crystal, pots/pans, normal wash, sani cycle
the main dial was pull to start and lit up in earlier days before later years when it burned out. And the switch was for the panel light (or night light) The main dial had a selection for short wash. It was a real quiet machine for being out of the 60's. I remember when being loaded the hump in the middle but I cant actually remember the actual roller. The dishes were always rinsed so I cant tell weather it was worthwhile or not. It did break a lot of times from what I remember. But lasted 18 years. I used to love the sounds - real quiet operation. I remember in the dry cycle you could hear the motor running. I would love to see more specs or a instruction book.
Thanks Peter

Oh, thanks for posting that advertisment, Pete! I remember seeing one in an old Reader's Digest with an explanation of how that 'Dual Drench' wash system worked.
And today's update - the ad on Kijiji Montreal is no longer active... *&@# I guess someone ponied up to buy all three appliances. Sigh...

unless Chris has a Christmas surprise for you LOLOLOL

Seriously though, given how near it is to Christmas it could have been a real pain getting one or all of these units transported to Ogden. And we all know there will be more, and maybe ever more spectacular
