The silverwear basket lifts out, and the flat rack area underneath the box of Cascade, parts in the middle (left to right) and folds up and back so that the bottom rack area can be loaded. (My 1954 Westinghouse is shown in the photo - with the rack orientated 90 degress counterclockwise from the posted photo). Mike |

Just for the heck of it, I phoned Diana to inquire about her Westinghouse dishwasher. I needed to leave a message. BUT, she did return my call this afternoon. What a nice person to talk to. If I remember the story correctly, and I am not remembering the entire story, she and her husband buy and sell Victorian style homes to fix up and flip. This Westinghouse dishwasher, along with a double wall oven, was in an apartment - not part of the main living quarters. Back in the 1970's, some renovation had been initiated in the apartment, but were all abandoned before the folks got around to updating the kitchen. From that point on, only the main house was lived in. The apartment sat in it's partially renovated state, and was never rented out. Now, Diana and husband have acquired this home, and have removed the dishwasher and wall oven. They saw the potential in the units. She told me that someone (from aw.org I hope) had phoned and was coming to take a look. I briefly told her about our website and the Collections link to photographs of so many wonderful vintage laundry and dishwasher collections. Ralph: Thanks for finding and posting this dishwasher. Hmmmm . . . I did receive a message from a local member who saw my post and totally wanted the machine.
It remains to be seen if there will be more to this story. Tune in tomorrow! This is yet another interesting dishwasher I've stumbled upon as I cruise CL for the elusive Whisper Quiet KA 22 series Superba. Maybe I should start looking for vintage roll-outs instead and see if I can whip up a torrent of 22 series Superbas that way. Also, my apologies for the duplicate thread title. I didn't see the one from 12/2 re: the ebay machine in Ohio. |

This is the dishwasher that was in the house when I was born. I remember the pull-out configuration. I used to start the thing up all the time when I was a toddler. It probably had more use in "accidental" starts than it did actually washing loads of dishes.
We moved from that house when I finished 1st grade, and we didn't have another dishwasher until 1974 (or '75). It was a Lady Kenmore (same as the 12/7 POD). |
