This was the first Machine I can remember as a child. Noisy and lasted 7 years.

Did this machine spin at 1140 as the first few models ? I have a vague memory that it spun very fast.

As soon as saw this and read the copy I wanted to start a thread.

Here's why:

At first glance it looks so similar to other machines of the early-mid 50's. The Speed Queen, the Kelvinator, the Dexter...what else. Actually did not recognize it at first as a GE.

And then odd-ball "Flood Washing."...What a stretch they had to make to come up with new metaphors for the wash action. And who are they bashing with the "wad of wash" Bendiis or Frigidaires?

A most provocative POD, at least for me. (Guessing that the 1140 was not still in power, but can't imagine why not.)

EDIT: Eddie, I forgot that you said you might remember it spinning very fast, and I'll always go with a washer boy's , memory, so I'm changing my guess back to 1140.;-D

Nope its a 650rpm spin, two belt machine. The early Belt Drive GE design. This is the last year before the Filter-flo was introduced.

My mom's first automatic washer. Noisy as all get out. Chrome strip in front was always popping off. Would love to see the guts of this machine. 2 belts?????
Fabri-flex dial on left has hot, warm, and "off" settings. Green push bar in the middle was the "water saver" control when doing partial loads.
Timer dial on right. No filter-flo.

I forgot about the "Off" position on the Water Temp Control.

That Machine made a very "Throaty" Sound when filling and Agitating. Sounded like made a grinding halt when it shut down in between cycles. Yes, the Chrome Strip would fall off and that Emblem on the Left Side of the front of the cabinet , I can remember only for that Year.

Any more thoughts ?
