It arrives tomorrow Whirlpool WGD5100VQ. I passed on the Cabrio, I don't need or like all that fancy electronic stuff and Eric's mom has poor eyesight (worse than mine), so I figured this one would be easier for her to read and operate.

Congratulations on the new dryer. These 29 inch Whirlpoool dryers are a classic already IMHO. I love the separate temp. control.

I don't think you can go wrong with this design. Been around for 40 years or somewhere thereabouts.

Good durable design. It should work out fine for you.
The only complaint I had with our's as with any Whirlpoo I have ever been around. The drum rollers make that thumpity-thump noise when it's first started. Once it warms up, it's smooth sailing.

I'm getting it through Rent A Center, a very basic no frills dryer, it's going to look a little funny sitting next to my harvest gold Maytag, LOL.

I noticed the lint filter is on the top, is it one of the long rectangular filters?

Simplicity made easy!
Way to go man. Matching is nice if the machine is in full view but if they are hidden, who really cares?
This dryer is sitting next to my front load washer.
It was TOL for its time but it's really a mid range in today's standard.

Some like the top mount lint filter, others don't. It never really mattered to me one way or the other, but I did notice when large bulky items were dried that the back was dried, but the front was not. It always appeared to me that with the side to side air flow little got to the front.
Way aroud that is just stop the dryer half way through and redistribute the comforters and such and it will be fine.

It's always fun to get a new appliance, isn't it? Since the door opens to the side, I'm guessing it's a 6.0 cu. ft. drum, which will be a tad bigger than your Frigidaire. You'll also get a larger lint screen. One of several things that I didn't like about my '02 Frigidaire was the tiny lint screen. It was always overloaded with lint by the end of a cycle, which was probably a contributing factor to the numerous complaints about dryer fires with that design.

Congrats, and may you have many carefree loads of dry clothes!

You'll like your new dryer. It'll dry your clothes quickly without baking them. These are also very reliable dryers. We have had ours since 1993 and have not yet had one repair on it.

One tip, if the cycle is ending and the clothes are not dry, check the lint filter. If it gets clogged the dryer will stop like at end of cycle until you clean the filter. We had this happen recently while running a load of brand new towels the first time.

Yes, it is one of those long rectangular filters and when you pull it out, dust goes everywhere.

AFAIK, the models like this one with the dryer higher in the cabinet are 7.0 cubic ft.

Actually, the models with the door higher in the cabinet (I.E. Kenmore Elites) are 7.4 cu. ft. and have the filter in the door. That's what all the front loader mate dryers are. But the one Jim is getting is 7.0 cu. ft. A good dryer.

Thanks for sharing your knowledge, gentlemen; I stand corrected! All the better to have a 7.0 cu. ft. drum.

What did we know

Thought about this when I as perusing the WP site last night and noticed the 6.5 cuy. ft. and the 7.0 cu. ft. dryer models looked exactly alike in the picture on the web site. I thought, oops, I bet Jim's dryer is the 6.5 Nice dryer.

Bulk Head

I really like how the bulkhead in the Whirlpool dryer bumps out a little to gently guide clothing away from the hot air outlet.  Help to keep that aluminum grill from darkening from burning fabric softener...

Well, Louis and Bob, I guess we'll split the difference, LOL!

Thanks for posting more pics, Jim. Love that gleaming white dryer drum and the x-large lint filter.

Nice Dryer

Looks like the Kenmore 80 series dryer I grew up with, this will be a great dryer.

Just got her hooked up and running.  I really wish we had 220 service in the laundry, I don't really like working with gas.  I'm getting ready to wash a load of clothes for her load, in just a couple of minutes.

Post# 484995 , Reply# 26   12/29/2010 at 11:22 (4,858 days old) by autowasherfreak ()

I don't know if it's my imagination, but the drum on the new dryer looks quite a bit larger than then drum on my Frigidaire Gallery dryer.  First load just went in to dry--3 pairs of jeans, some t-shirts and couple of slacks.  Started at 11:25 drying on med heat.

The dryer buzzed at 12:30.  The jeans were just a little damp in placed mostly the seams.
