Hi everybody ... following through with a New Year's Resolution by joining automaticwasher.org today! I've been on Vacuumland for quite a while and am an avid vintage appliance collector! I live in a space age vintage home where everything's old. Everything, that is, except for one horrible glaring and embarrasing thing: we have a brand-new washer and dryer set. Eek!
At the top of my list for 2011 is to find a beautiful, glamorous, working washer/dryer set from the late 1950s through the early '60s. Preferably in the colors pink, turquoise or green! (The laundry room itself is pink so I am hoping to find something that is complimentary!) I've seen the Reward-Wanted page and was wondering if that's the place to post my "appliance wanted" info? I'm open on make and model but one thing for sure is that it's working! I'd gladly trade the new washer & dryer set for the old one! Cheers! | ||

i live in cincinnati myself and have been collecting for a little over 2 years now. you would be amazed what comes our way here in ohio and nearby!
i have made many a quick trip to cleveland, michigan, kentucky and indiana not to mention buffalo new york to get some of my machines. i hope to have pics of all my machines on the site here later this year. they will come your way when you least expect it. just don't drop em off a truck on the way home like i did with one of mine! good luck, keep an eye on craigs list and e bay! pete | ||

Old washers in Ohio

In 7 months, I have found 1 Hoover Twin tub in PA, an Easy SpinDrier in Pittsburgh, 2 Speed Queen wringer washers in Cleveland, another Easy in Lorain, and a Maytag from 1979 in Akron. Craig's list, Ebay, estate sales, ReStores, always keep eyes open! Best of luck, Mark | ||

It's probably better if you purchase a set from the mid to late 60's since the drums and tubs are usually bigger, parts are much, much more common, the bugs that plagued older machines were generally worked out by this time period, and better designs came into play that were simpler and easier to work with. If you're hung up on pastel colors (like most of us here), you can always have the cabinets stripped and powder coated to any color of your liking. | ||
