We had these as kids, from the dime store. Starting in the 50s, when Philco washers still had the metal agitator, they advertised "Ball Point Balance" where the whole mechanism pivoted on a little round ball. |

Amazed at how much the upper portions of the gyroscope looks like the disc and shaft of the Blackstone transmission. Like you, I saw the thread for the commercial washer too late, but after working that tranny for hours to get it unstuck, I'll remember that "flying saucer" complete with ports (bolts) forever. |

I also did get one of these. The only place that carried Blackstone in New York was a place called Carmel Lumber. It was in the late 60s and they had the solid tub SS washer. I never saw one run. I am surprised more places didn't cary Blackstone in New York. I only knew 1 person that had the dryer. I never understand why the door was so long!
