I went and looked at the new GE front loading units and was a bit impressed with their new design. They improved the fins by shortening them and added a few ribs for better cleaning. The 1200 rpm spin and the new door design was also impressive. The dryers need to be redesigned now. I do not like the movement of the entire drum assembly. I prefer the drum with a stable back panel.Like the other units have including the new 7.3 cf Frigidaire Affinities. What a nice breath of fresh air! I am pleased to see that, finally, the different manufacturers, like GE, are making their own models instead of contracting out to Electrolux or Whirlpool. Now you have a broader choice and many different key features per brand. L.G., GE, Electrolux (Frigidaire), Samsung, Asko, and Bosch. The new Affinities have a bright interior drum light and now, from what I have seen so far, have a clockwise spin (up to 1300 rpms depending on the model chosen.) the original ones had a counterclockwise spin. The new Whirlpool/Maytag/Kenmore HE5s, have a new direct drive motor, smoother stainless steel wash baskets, square window doors(Maytags),recirculating spray and stainless steel dryer drums. however,W'pool has yet to give owners access to the "button catcher" which is connected to the main drain pump. Most other brands like LG and GE have them accessible so the user(s) can clean them out on a regular basis. Much friendlier controls, nicer features, smoother design and huge capacity are going to (IMOHO) make the new generation of front loading washers a major break through in popularity in the white goods retail market.

I went to Sears yesterday too and wound up buying a new Affinity pair in black. Real basic features but,at $449/washer/$499 gas dryer w/7.3 cu ft capacity I just couldn't resist.None in stock but they have them at the Honolulu warehouse and are shipping them over for me next Thursday. I should be able to pick them up next Saturday. Those will probably go in the Opium Den. A nice three bedroom two and a half bath unit overlooking the gulch that goes down hill to the Pacific about an 1100 ft drop.I just finished installing an indoor waterfall at the main entrance there. I made it using lava rocks and bamboo logs.I brought some fish and live plants in too but had to put a fine mesh screen over the water trough to keep the cats from eating the fish.Nice waterfall sound and the fish are used to being hand fed.I also saw the newer Whirlpool front loaders but they are on backorder and they aren't expecting to get them till late March. Those were on sale at our local independent hardware store in Hilo for $429/washer and $469/gas dryer! They Also had a nice Cabrio set with a window on both units at $779/ea.If I remember right, they were the 7500 series.
