hi all, havnt been on in a good while... just some updates for you's.
after 2 years of faithful service the Haier packed her bags and left in November(pump) in her place is our new Hotpoint WML540G which i love... mainly its ties to Ariston( My favorite brand. some photos below... its intreting when selecting the shirts wash letting it fill up then changing the wash to fastwash it add ALOT more water which makes for a very intresting wash.
the old Haier which surprizingly i miss and even more intresting is this model is still on sale.

Well this is a cheap chinese brand under Bush in Argos, Better to Stick to proper brands

Haire of China does make other brands.

Thus Keith I believe is mentioning that some Bush brands sold by Argos are made by Haier; and maybe (my guess) that some UK Hotpoint washers are too?

Mum has this. It's quite a nice machine but I'd rather die than have a 1970's Hotpoint in my kitchen when I get my house in a time faraway.

James.

Hotpoint UK machines are made by Indesit company in Italy, nothing chinese so far...

I really like the dark coloured couple of machines you got! Too bad they sell them only in white here in Italy despite being made here!

All Dryers for the Indesit Company are still made in the UK (for now!).

I think Indesit company in Italy owns Hotpoint-UK; thus they are the likely maker!

Here in the USA Hotpoint is a totally different company, like a sister brand of General Electric; ie GE. Here in the USA, Hotpoint is owned by General Electric. It was bought in 1920 as a maker of irons, the Pacific electric heating Co that stems from 1905.

I think Hotpoint was started in the UK:
web.archive.org/web/2007020710445...

GEC purchased Hotpoint UK in the 50's/60's I believe, it then spun it out as a subsidiary called General Domestic Appliances (GDA) and GE purchased 50% of the subsidiary. In the early 2000's GEC was being destroyed by its management and solid its share of GDA to Indesit (called Merloni Elettrodomestici at the time) who then went on to buy the stake owned by GE and the rest is history.

Indesit shut down the UK Washing Machine factory in Wales in 2009, but it still retains its Dryer factory at Yate.

Hotpoint is often a value brand here in the USA.

Hotpoint is often a value brand here in the USA. One often finds the "almost the same" models of an item in a GE and Hotpoint appliance at different stores, with difference in pricing. Both are made in the same factory, but the paint schemes, knob styles are often different. A repair manual covers often both, since both are the same cake with different icing/trim. The two different brands helped reduce a monopoly problem eons ago. It also can create where a spec states a GE model thus it locks out a Hotpoint dealer in bidding, ie creates a moat in pricing. My folks Hotpoint Electronic Range 1972 Hotpoint RHV886 was 1100 bucks, a GE Electronic J896 was about 1200. All the guts, switches, clocks, thermostats, burners, water pumps are the exact same on many USA Ge and sister Hotpoint brands, since the are the same item with different trim in many cases.
