From large door size, dryer is probably Stream of Heat, not Halo era. Washer looks like the speed buttons aren't there, probably a one-speed?

I think on that model of washer, the insert where the speed buttons usually are has "Automatic" printed on it.  I don't know the variations in the Maytag line-up, but am thinking it could be a two-speed machine, and that the cycle selected determines the speeds involved.

My mom's "Automatic" Maytag was a 1-speed, but it was a regular capacity (& somehow the Maytag dryer she later bought was a higher-up model w/ Reg. Temp. & Low Temp. buttons, & a Timer only; also reg. cap.)

I agree, that a "slower speed" would be in the timer dial, although "slower" might be "intermittent action" depending on the model...

-- Dave (& Maytag washers & dryers are "Best Regardless of Price" by Chas. Klamkin--or at least Maytag is "Best Top Loader"...! He really vouches for Westy Front Loaders--the "couple of them made", according to his book...)

If the "filler" says "Automatic" rather than speed buttons, then it's a fabric-matic 1-speed washer.
