Will be receiving a KDS-18 this week. It has been unused since 1983, what should I look for or do to get her back up and running? Any help appreciated, thanks, Tom

1 hook it up 2 pour at least 1/2 gallon in bottom 3 run it through a full cycle with regular detergent with lower panel removed while checking for any leaks 4 if it passes these tests try washing a really dirty greasing load of dishes 5 if it passes the cleaning test repete #4 a few hundred times cleaning filter as nesscessary.

Congratulations!

John you crack me up!

One of my daily drivers is a KDS-18.  I got a call one day saying that it never worked and they wanted it out.  When I got to the home I saw it and the front was filthy.  When I opened it it had all the paper work inside and free sample of Cascade.

When I took the panel off I realized why it never worked.  It was never hooked up to either plumbing or electricity.  How this event took place I did not care.  I just could not get it out fast enough.

When I ran it for the first time I put almost boiling hot water in the bottom with a little olive oil.  Let it sit for a little while.  Pressed normal soil and let it run for a cycle.  No leaks.  Have used it since.  Awesome dishwasher.

So I should fill it manualy? I guess the olive oil helps the seals.

hot water in the sump for about 20 minutes to soften the seal. never used the olive oil with it but hey, can't hurt! will start doing it that way.

yes, the hot water will lubricate and soften up that seal that has set for years and years. pour it in manually ofcourse with the machine (motor) off.

I will

Hook up the machine, (electricity and water) but fill the machine with hot water and olive oil and let soak for 20 minutes, then push "Normal Wash" and let machine continue to fill and start cycle while looking for leaks. Sound right? Thanks, Tom

Tom,

Put a good bit of Olivie Oil  in first and let it sit for about 20 minutes.  Then put the hot water.  HOT WATER.  Let is sit for another 20 or so minutes.

Then Plug and Play.

Hope it all turns out well.

Let us know.
