Hello everyone. I just acquired an A408 washer. It starts right off agitating at normal speed, pumps water full force, and seems to ramp up normally during spin. When agitating it "rattles" or "chatters" a little from under the machine. It is not heard while pumping water during spin, but then once water is pumped out & it's spinning- that noise is back. No signs of leaking grease or water anywhere. Any thoughts? Thank You.

From underneath, push the motor forward and remove the belts. Check to make sure the allen head set screw in motor pulley groove is nice and tight. Re-install belts.

Cavitates

Are you hearing a gasping noise from the pump pulling against the drain during agitation?

The pump part of the motor pulley may be coming apart, take both belts off and check the pulley parts for looseness, if its loose you will need another motor pulley. MT used a cheap stamped pump drive pulley around the time your washer was made.

Thank You

Thank You for the replies. I ordered a new belt set- just for preventitive maintenance. Once they arrive, I will check all suggested. It does sound like a pulley (metallic noise)
