It's offical - the 2011 'hunting season' (for me anyway) is officially open. I have been trying to get a trip down to Queensbury, NY to visit the Hansen's appliance business for ages and this past weekend, I was a.ble to head down with Phil (PhilR here on the board).
Just to remind everyone, there are hundreds of vintage appliances and probably nearly a hundred thousand NOS parts. There are lots of ranges and refrigerators (a 'Sapphire Blue' Whirlpool fridge can you believe it) and a pretty good number of washers and dryers. |

It's a Westinghouse design inside. Impeller wash, separate drain pump with a sump, and the water entry at the rear of the tub.
Just look at the condition of the racks and the tub - this dishwasher does not look as if it has seen a lot of hard KP duty! Correct me if I am wrong, but am I missing a section of the top rack?? |

While at the Hansen's, Phil and I concentrated on testing the washer and dryer he bought so I didn't even think to even try plugging 'Monty' in...
Once in Ogden, I figured I would start by inspecting the machine. Despite evidence of mice or other rodents (peanut shells? EEESH!) there was no apparent damage to wiring... |

So, now I decided to dig up a GFI extension and give it whirl...
I am thrilled to say the machine works wonderfully! The drive motor runs smoothly, quietly and doesn't heat up. The drain pump (cause of death of the Viking) runs great, the heater works, and by golly, so does the timer motor. I totally lucked out here!! So, next steps will be to get a new drain hose and give Monty the 'bucket test'. Stay tuned!! |

Congratulations, Paul. Is it the angle of the photo or is the impeller missing a bit of Bakelite? |

Roadtrip may be in order.... My Kenmore range needs a couple things as does the old turquoise fridge and of course any vintage SQ parts that may be required. Could be fun! |

Can't wait for the weekend to try this one out! I am planning on getting a new drain hose today. Oh, and hubby is being taken to dinner at a fancy Italian restaurant tomorrow night, so he hasn't been too bad about this one... He didn't notice the Inglis top-loader pictures that PhilR posted in this thread - THAT he will be ticked off about... HeeHeeHee
Tom: you're right - there is a 'flake' off the impeller. I think Larry in Ohio might still have an impeller like this, but I think it should work reasonably well still.
klinkerqueen: the Hansen's shop is in Queensbury, NY (near Glens Falls). IIRC, your Speed Queen set are Canadian-made - I know a couple of places up here that have surprised me with parts, so let me know if there is anything you need help with!
All: Hans Hansen II has actually floated the idea of having a 'parts party' - it would be a great way for him to get the thousands of parts he has sorted and organized and it would be great for any members who need specific parts!! I will keep in touch with him and let you know what may develop! |

Is there by chance, any vacuum cleaners in there? Looks like a goldmine! Some real nice machines in there! |

Michael - the tub looked beautiful! I asked Hans II if he had re-done it, it looked so nice - turns out that no he hadn't touched it! I will try and get to see the appliance parts guy I know here in Montreal (I need to close the deal on that 57 Speed Queen washer dagnabit) - I swear I saw a WP (well, this one probably came from an Inglis) bleach and detergent dispenser in his hoard...
Brandon - no vacuums, alas... The rest of the treasures are just that!! |
