Hi Sherry, the machine is at a minimum 30 years old as Maytag stopped making these in 81. Yours is probably older. The main failure on these machines is the diverter valve, which is located in the machine. It's a flapper valve that controls which side of the machine will drain. The pot-metal stem corrodes and the plunger can get lodged in some odd positions blocking the water flow. Also, if you are technically savvy, you can remove the front and rear access panels and verify everything is moving. The belt that drive the spinner is a slip belt like a full-size Maytag machine. The arm that holds the pump is the tensioner. The pump could also be seized or there could be something blocking the drain hose in and around the pump. My e-mail address is in my profile, feel free to drop me a line and I can help you further if you'd like. I have several of these machines and I can snap some pics for you as well.
I think you will enjoy this machine if you can get it up and running. -Tim |
