Jon,

I got a mail from mr Kurmann who is Product Manager, Marketing Sales at V-Zug AG. I had mailed him about your question about the first Unimatic. He told me their first washer was the V-Zug Unimatic Favorit and that it was indeed an H-axis toploader. This fully automatic washer was launched in 1950. The first Unimatic was quite an energy and water hog. For a load of 6kg whites washed at 95*C it used 260 liters and 4.4 kWh. That included a prewash. Without a prewash you saved 20 liters. For a load of colors on 60*C it still used 2.4kWh.

The 2005 Unimatic T does a load of whites (also 6kg) with 85 liters and 2.4kWh when a prewash is included. Without the prewash it's 75 liters. A 60*C wash uses 1.4kWh.

I'm going to mail him back so if you have any questions, just tell me, I will include them in my mail to him. At least the question when their first frontloader was launched is still open. There is no information about that on the website. It looks like V-Zug focussed on the H-axis toploader in the beginning. No wonder I have a soft spot for them!

Louis

I think that answers my question but does he have any documentation? Miele published a book on their history and if V-Zug did that I would love to have that for the history of washers book!

I must say I am getting very interested in the top loading front loader design!
