I'm going off to college and I was wondering how easy it would be to hide such a machine? (Dishwashers are prohibited per terms of housing agreement.) I've never seen one in person and was unsure as to dimensions, weight, etc.

They're about the size of a largish microwave....

If you have the closet or storage space for that, you should be able to hide it away if they come snooping. Note that the sink adaptor does look different than the standard faucet adapter on kitchen faucets, so you might wanna keep the old one hand in case of an inspection.

A largish microwave?

Are we talking like a radarange size? We have lots of closets, and I don't think anyone would notice the adapter on the faucet. Plus if it's too heavy to move about 30 ft across the apartment I don't want to deal with it. Maybe a semi-permenant install underneath the sink, in the cabinet itself?

Here are the specs for the Danby from Walmart...

gmmcnair's profile picture

Danby...

18.88 x 22.44 x 17.0 (L x W x H)

Shipping weight: 66 lbs....so about 60 lbs to move.

While I was there, I looked up the Haier..

Haier Countertop Dishwasher

22.6 x 18.9 x 17.2 (L x W X H)

Shipping Weight: 56 lbs

So, while neither one is super heavy, they're not super light either.

My mother wanted a dishwasher in her senior apartment so I bought a Danby countertop model for her.   It's big enough and heavy enough I wouldn't want to schlep it around every time I had a few dishes to wash, but that's just me.  It's noisy compared to a standard dishwasher, which is something to consider in a dorm situation.   I have to say it does a respectable job of washing up dishes though, and my mother is very happy with it.
