The Avocado washer is now officialy surplus. I couldn't convince John to keep it (he has been very supportive of the other vintage appliances, so I can't really complain. Besides, I think he bears emotional scars from the Avacado era ;-)

If anybody wants it, let me know. It's here in Seattle, and I *think* I might be able to negotiate some space in the garage for a few weeks. It's also listed on craigslist in Seattle, so maybe some budding appliance enthusiast will find it there.

Appliance Shipping

It really is too bad that you can't put an appliance on a train. There is one between Seattle and Chicago, which only takes 44 hours, and would make the price much more reasonable.

But Amtrak/Greyhound/etc. won't (knowingly) take appliances. Not that I blame them, as appliances are heavy and delicate in their own way, which requires more labor, but it sure would be cool.

So,

what's the replacement??

As I said in the thread in Super, if I had the room, (BUT I DON'T!) I would have called Craters and Freighters meself.

If it's not already taken

Dan,

I'd love to have your avocado Maytag (is it a 608?) if it's not already taken. It looks like it's in mint condition! It shouldn't be much of a hassle for me to have Craters & Freighters crate it and ship it to St. Louis.

I read your autobiography on your web site. It is HYSTERICALLY funny. I've been sitting here, all alone, laughing my head off. My favorite photo was the one of you, or rather, your cute face, "filling in" for Betty Crocker, with a very devilish grin.

What's an A808 like? Is it the all push button one? I have an A806 that's pretty nice.

what's an A808 like ?

The A808 is not all pushbutton. It's pretty much the same as the A806. Just has the gold painted lower control panel instead of the blue/turquoise.

I Got an 806 ! ! !

Hey ya all, I've got a 806 on the way to my place :>>>>>
Greg (fixerman) from MN had one, I was glad to find it!!
Guess I was mistaken..no 808...it's an 806, I think the 906 is the pushbutton model.
Gotta love the old MAYTAGS ! ! ! Especially lighted panels:>>
just wanted to share my good fortune.

Regards

Good for you! You'll enjoy that machine a lot. The lighted panel machines make you feel so glamorous on washday!

NIce washer, interesting GE Dryer

Love the Avacodo Maytag, wish you were closer.

Interesting GE dryer. I have never seen one with the handle horizontal and mounted closer to the top. This must be early or mid 60s. Those doors were too flimsy to allow for a handle not mounted directly behind the latch(assuming the latch on this dryer is centered vertically).

Well, Kenny....it's like this

Hey Kenny, there is actually another MAYTAG luver here in town!!! :>>
After getting your set home, Brian came over, he had one set of HG Tag's at his rental, well...now he's got the 2nd set for his home.
Both sets running like champs ! ! ! Nothing less from the ol' Maytags ! !
So...that's what going on with them..one can always find room for vintage Maytag.
Thanks Again Kenny ! !

Al :>
