Hi Guys,
Just thought I would share with you this fantastic find..

A gentleman recently contacted me and said he had a brand new washer dating from the 60's which was still boxed and had never been used, I did have doubts as I have heard this before !!

I did do some research, as I hadn't really heard much about the Flatley W110 / 104 before, I have to say it didn't do very well in the Which report of February 1961. They concluded that between the Flatley & the Brunlec then Brunlec came out with a better rating..poor Flatley !!

Even thought I wasn't keen on the machine to have a new machine in the box and having never been used was a big plus. I finally picked it up yesterday, and have to say it is rather good. I haven't water-tested it yet, although the turbulator whirls around at great speed !! The box is a bit tatty but all complete.

Flatley were well known for their "Drying cabinets" through the 60's & 70's and from what I can find out they only had a couple of models of washers, probably because they were so basic.

I luv the slogan's on the boxes "She deserves a Flatley"..I have attached some pics, any questions let me know.

Keith

Morning Keith, well its a good one although like you we where all hoping it was a Servis Top Loader..Hhhmmm!!!

It looks great and you couldnt tell from the black & white photos of the WHICH report that it had ALL THAT COLOUR, that machine would certainly brighten up washday...does it have a switch and is it like the hoover just plug in and go??  The design of the tub, is it angled at the base?? as the agi and round tub is very much the same as the Vactric single tub. Is the hose in good condition or dried out??

Happy washing , Mike

Congratulations! What a find. Is the machine so basic that she does not heat water? How many liters or gallons of water does she hold? I love the design on the rollers; the waviness makes the words look like a jingle. Is the lid a soft or hard plastic? If nothing else, she would make an excellent cooler for canned drinks at a party, but I would leave the lid off for non-washer people who might be careless in handling it.

I think it would be fun to have somebody crank the wringer as fast as possible while you feed the laundry through to see how far away they would land and how many directions the water would fly as it was squeezed out of the clothes.

Have fun with your new toy!

Hi Mike,

I wish it had been any other machine, as these were the most basic of machines, I guess the next lower machine to this would be a Burco boiler !! What a find a Servis Toploader in the box would be, now I would pass out if that came about :-0

The tub isn't angled just the turbulator is off-set, the tub isn't flat, it is kinda scooped. Vactric..? I thought their only machine was the pastel green fibre-glass tub washer of 1958..?
The hose is still intacted, and seems squidgy..
Cheers..Keith

NIB - how fun!  I would have brought that home too, can't pass up the new in box goodies.  Sometimes the bottom-of-the line basic machines have a special beauty all their own.  Humble and utilitarian though it is, imagine the delight of a young mother who'd saved for months to buy this just to lighten the work of her days.  Thanks for the pics - thats a beautiful kitchen, BTW.

Like it was said above. The fancy machines with all the bells and whistles are great, BUT there is just something about a entry level machine that is just classy. Congrats on a great time capsule find. Are we going to see pics and video of her maiden wash?

Hi Tom & Gansky,

The machine only holds about 5 gallons, very small tub and I can only imagine that this machine would have been suitable a bachelor or single person, mainly just to wash light garments, nothing like bedding or heavy linen !!

The lid is made of a soft-ish plastic, but not floppy.

Thanks for the compliment regarding the kitchen, it is still in the process of being finished, taken slightly longer to finish as I insisted on having my 1969 Hotpoint top loader in there, and units had to be worked around it..lol..what we do for one's interest !!

Cheers
Keith

Flatley Washer

Hi Keith.

My Mum had a Flatley washer when my Brother was a baby. I know he was born in 1961.

Such a shame they dont make them like that anymore.

Happy washing.

Paul

Hi Paul,

I don't think many of these machines were bought, as it was so basic, but still better than just a standard boiler i guess or handwashing.

I do like the colours of the machine, which many washers these days lack.

Enjoyed the pics - thanks for posting. You had some interesting machines in England years ago.
