 With the washing machine at least partially rehabilitated, I have decided to turn my attention to the dryer.
I knew this would be more challenging than the washer. When I opened it up and started to disassemble I was not disapointed. Here is what I found:
The inside is a MESS and will require thorough cleaning and likely some sanding and painting on the non-drum surfaces.

Controls The control center here will also need extensive cleaning and I will need to either replace or rebuild the electronic control. I've done all of the Maytag service manual diagnostics and they keep pointing to the electronic control as the problem. It would appear as though the rectifier and reed switch are working properly. I will need to dig in further and check all of the resistors and the capacitor to see of they meet the specs that Maytag outlines. Some good, old-fashioned solid-state electronics bench work lies ahead!

Akronman That doesn't look like the right part to me. That looks like the felt seal for the inner rim of the drum where it meets the door. I may decide to replace that one too, but it's not in as bad of shape. What I'm looking for is the huge outer cover with the felt seal that is stapled to the metal cover. Dey appliance lists it as part 302771 which is a special order at $50.55. It's 3-2771 on the parts list diagram shown here.

I took a better look at your picture. My electric, DE606, doesn't have a felt seal at the edge of that huge shroud, so it allows air to enter all around the electric coil. The gas models do need to seal off the incoming air EXCEPT for the heated air coming from the burner.
Maybe some pro in here might know if you can buy 2 or so of the cheap $6.62 felt ones and just piece it together, use good automotive high-temp glue/epoxy to hold it in place? That's purely a guess, I don't know the Maytag GAS model like I know my electric, sorry. And by the way, your washer and dryer look great, congratulations and good luck with the repairs, you'll have a great matched set and years of solid performance. | ||

I suspect you're right... I took a closer look at that seal and while I didn't measure, it appears as if there is about a 12" band that is bad. The felt is about 3"-4" wide and is quite thick (1/4" to 3/8") of an inch. I'm guessing that I can find some sort of heat-tolerant product that I can creat a "patch" over that area of the large seal.
Anyone else have thoughts about this? | ||

MT GAS HOH FRONT SEAL KIT  I bought two of these from Larry at Modern Parts late last year he may still have one left as he asked me if I wanted the last one and I didn't want to be greedy. Being that I have worked on hundreds of MT HOH gas dryers and completely rebuilt quite a few as well I may be able to save you some time and trouble if you want to get in touch directly. | ||
