Ok Ive been working on my BOL GE washer I rescued from a field. I still can't get it to agitate. I put enough water in it so activet it but I get a buzzing sound from the water inlets. I don't have them hooked up. My guess is there is something at that point that tells the machine it's ok to agitate. I also think I might have to replace it. Any thoughs on this problem?

Thanks Everyone
Joe

There has to be enough water in the tub to trigger the water level switch, for whatever setting it's on. If the inlet valves are still buzzing, then you haven't got enough water in it yet, or the water level switch is bad.

Joe make sure you've filled the washer all the way up with water. If the solenoids are still buzzing the water level switch isn't satisifed that there is enough water in the wash basket to start activation.

If it's been sitting,it's possible that the rubber pressure hose to the switch has come loose,or deteriorated.

Open the control panel. Check the pressure switch and the tube coming from the tub. GE's usually don't have deterioration problems with the tube, but I have seen where critters chewed on the tube. If the tube looks ok, remove it from the pressure switch and blow into the switch where the tube connects to it. You should hear it click. If it clicks it is prohably ok. Also blow through the tube to be sure it is not obstructed. To make it agitate without water in it there two ways to do it. (1)Put the timer on fill and pull out the knob to start it. Blow into the pressure switch. You may have to use a short length of tube to do this. It should begin to agitate. (2) Use a jumper wire to short across the terminal coming from the timer to the run terminal. Check the wiring diagram to determine which terminals to short across.
